Configuring the X-Arcade

Hi!
I seem to be having difficulties configuring my X-Arcade stick.
I tried the test:
http://www.xgaming.com/service/ServiceFiles/Test/test.html
Every button works in the test.
But in games the main fire button, programmed to "Left Ctrl", does nothing.
I have language setting on US english so mapping should be correct, as also suggested by the test.
Anyone have ideas?
p.s Player two controller works perfectly in game and test.

I'm probably just stupid.
Wasn't using latest software for Mame..
but now that I am, I really miss the windows feel...

What do you mean "Windows feel", were you using Mame32?
It's called MameUI now:

If you can't run the 64-bit build there's a 32-bit build available on the News board.
