You are running 64-bit MAME, yes? That would probably make a difference. You might also want to make sure multithreading is turned on. I'm running a barely adequate Athlon X2 and multithreading puts me over the top on a few games that wouldn't otherwise run at 100%.

If none of that helps, maybe post your config? Something might jump out at us.

many thanks

yes running 64 bit mame.
multi-threaded rendering is enabled.
direct 3D version 9 is being used.....

just tried it again with 10/10 frame skip and it was barely hitting 100%

im not in a dire need to play this game btw the way. i just figured it would be a good tester and run better than this.

i can post whatever you need, what config should i give you exactly?

That. You want at least 3.2 to hang with the big boys in MAME.

i changed that filter option, i may have turned it on by mistake.

im have such shitty luck with computers.

no noticeable improvement with filter off....

That was the most noticeable difference to my ini file. Is anything else using CPU? Task manager > performance tab.

Maybe set "priority 1" in this case...

Anyway, a good cooler and an overclock would do wonders with your cpu.

EDIT:

Radient Silvergun is running between 300 and 400fps in a i7 3770k at 4.5 in Mame v0.148

Is a Dell BIOS going to let you do that? Anyhow, even if it's possible, doing so will void the crap out of your warranty. Which pretty much defeats the purpose of buying a Dell.

Install official MAME
in it's own directory then create a fresh mame.ini

If you need a Front End look at either QMC2

Or MAMELOAD

Using the official binary and restarting from scratch my get you decent speed back that you have otherwise lost and are missing out on.

Try using the baseline MAME (not MAMEUI) 64-bit executable, and put the rom(s) you're testing into the default "roms" folder so you don't need a custom ini file.

Then post your benchmarking results.

...or you might be able to just update the bios, who knows...

About the warranty, yeah, that sucks...
