I don't know if the new EA Sim City is cracked yet, but I've seen plenty of people who bought it get frustrated with the online requirement.

I'm going to just go back and play the last SC released by Electronic Arts, SC2000. I may need some OS emulation to run it, but "not-EAGames" is better.

Still waiting for a SimGolf patch....

Money, basically. When someone creates something brand new, there is no guarantee of it being profitable or successful, so the main motivation is the creator's vision. As a thing becomes more successful, profit starts to become the main motivation. In most cases, the creator will eventually sell the thing to a third party that is entirely profit driven, and that's when it really starts to go downhill. To get their money's worth, they just milk the cash cow until there's nothing left.
