New project

I'm working on a new emulator called HBMAME. It will be an up-to-date replacement for MisfitMAME.
Because so much has changed, every game broke. So far, 161 are working again. But there's a long way to go. Some games will be dropped because of various reasons. There will be more info later.

Is there any way to make it more maintainable so that it just becomes (primarily) a list of ROM definitions and a sourcecode overlay?

If I understand you correctly, that's how it is. However there have been so many changes since 0.128.. for example "main" is now "maincpu", ROMREGION_DISPOSE doesn't exist any more, other rom regions have had names changes, size changes, byte-size changes etc.
We've changed from c to c++, which means I can't just throw in a few extra functions, I have to make a new .h file and define the extras in there as well. I thought of making derivate classes but decided against it.
The pong cpu "gensync" is ignored by the compiler, no idea why, most likely it will just get thrown out. Some of the demo programs no longer work. And so on.
Today I've gotten the galaga hacks to work, including the 'bang' sound on the bootlegs (not working on official mame). This brings the total to 228 games.

I'll be very very happy if MONACOGP is working again because I received a lot of request to include it in MAMEUIFX. I'm waiting anxiously for the first source code release.

Now have 611 games in the system.

Beta Testers needed!

Now 1286 games. Yes, Monaco is mostly working. The only part not working is the little symbol that flashes to warn you of the bridge approaching.
So now, the next thing I need is beta testers. The function of Beta Testers is to try every game looking for things that don't work. I know of a number of them already but I've no time or inclination to try every single game.
So hands up all those who would like to be a tester. Just a command-line Windows 32-bit binary will be provided, no frontend, no source. Ask here for instructions if you become lost.

No idea what that means... just use your existing misfitmame set for now, should be close enough. Or use another rom manager.

I played a few hundred different games so far (I'm loading the list alphabetically using Tafoid's MAMELOAD front end) No crashes and everything is playing great so far.
One thing I have noticed though is I have created a hbmame.ini *hbmame -cc* and it has HLSL settings in DIRECT3D POST-PROCESSING OPTIONS however when I set hlsl_enable 1 nothing happens in hbmame.
I'm unsure if this is intended behavior or not, but I thought I'd report it because it's the only thing I have noticed thus far.
[EDIT] After looking at my notes there doesn't seem to be any way to coin up and start the 4 different Alpaca games.

The HLSL code is unchanged from what is currently in SVN. Also it doesn't work for me either because I'm using Windows 7 without the required DX9 DLLs. So I cannot help you with that.

The alpacas are not games, they are some sort of crude operating system. But you are correct, they are totally useless. I will most likely remove them.

but for working with xpadder you will need change something in the source code of mame eg. 0148u5:
C:\MiniGW\source\mame0148u5high\src\osd\windows\input.c // For testing purposes: force DirectInput #define FORCE_DIRECTINPUT 1
I can't build my own hbmame from source like mame 0148u5 there is no makefile there :-(
How can change it? cheers

I tried to use the svn branch to get the right mame version... it didn't compiled but there are error messages...
src/mame/drivers/jrpacman.c: In function 'device_t* construct_machine_config_jrpacman(machine_config&, device_t*)': src/mame/drivers/jrpacman.c:317:2: error: 'pacman_interrupt' is not a member of 'pacman_state' make: *** [obj/windows/mame/drivers/jrpacman.o] Error 1 make: *** Waiting for unfinished jobs.... Finished! 0 Hours 3 Minutes and 21 Seconds Elapsed.
Is there a way to upload the complete source working code without "error-messages" of the current hbmame?
cheers and thanks for this great port!!!

After looking at it I have no idea how it ever compiled. You could try commenting out the line it complained about (you'll see pacman_interrupt in the line). Once it has compiled if you find jrpacman doesn't run you could try un-commenting the line above the one it complained about. Other than that, you'll have to wait for the next release.

I commented out the jrpacman line and it compiled. But it seems to be only the mormal mame branch is working no "hbmame" roms. Is there a change needed to make hbmame games work? Or another question How long does it take until a "new" version is comming? And please add the COMPLETE source Code

hi all, I'm happy to announce I added support for HBMAME in my frontend, Emu Loader. It does not require MAME to work. Even created my own icon for this MAME variant.

OK you got it working. I'll leave in the pacman line, because it must be there somewhere, even if windows 7's useless search couldn't find it.
There's no complete collection. In the Misfitmame days a fellow called Scuore did it, but he's gone awol.
