qbert high scores randomly clearing out? (MAME Q*Bert)

Has anyone seen this in QBert using MAME? There seems to be no rhyme or reason to it, but every few days the high scores simply reset back to the defaults.
I've even tried to rebuild the high score table within the service mode.
Is this a bug? Are there any clones that will function better?

AFAIK, the top 10 should be kept upon restart.
You don't mention which version of MAME you are using, so I have to guess and have tested with the most recent version.
I played 3 games enough to get in the top 10 in different places - stopped and restarted MAME several times and even F3 Soft Reset many times to see if I could erase the scores and I could not.

Yes, am using the latest version.
It is strange. I can go days, playing everyday and the scores stay... but then I'll play again and it is gone. Other times, they are gone much sooner.
I never F3.. only stops and starts.
