Install it this morning.

Subtotal $54.98
Shipping $2.49

Cheaper than the stores price those for.

Download and DVD.

Got it from here. http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/windows-8/meet

I bought it for $15. I have not installed it yet. I probably won't for a long time either.

Don't forget to get the free media center key.

Exploited the upgrade loophole?

If I had a touchscreen or were coming from something older than Win 7 or maybe Vista, I'd upgrade. Otherwise, there's just not a compelling reason.

$15 is a hell of a compelling reason if you don't have Win 7. Or if you don't have it legit.

I've found nothing wrong with it after installing classic shell.

How do you like windows 8 so far? I have heard mixed opinions on it.

I like it so far. A lot of stuff been replace and removed. Getting use to the new layouts and new options.

Beware some of the crappy apps.

What has been removed? I haven't noticed anything missing. Never looked at the apps/app store either. I just installed classic shell almost immediately and never looked back. Had to buy a new version of Acronis True Image and upgrade my Symantec Endpoint Protection, but other than that, everything I've ever done/run in Win7 is compatible.

You remember the Start > Programs? That gone. Tools from that area is gone too. There is so many stuff missing isn't in the Windows 8. I can't even find the player. Really is BS when they have those taken out before the beta release. I guest they were trying to get it to where it doesn't take a lot of memories.

no.. it's not gone. Install classic shell already. Easiest way to put it back on there. Every tool in Win7 is there and there is more! If you right-click an ISO file and choose open with->Windows Explorer, it auto mount's it to a virtual drive! No need for 3rd party software like daemon tools anymore!

I found out the one for Windows 8 is hidden. Here the link. It works. http://thenextweb.com/microsoft/2012/11/24/how-to-summon-windows-8s-secret-start-menu-of-sorts/ It just have less stuff there.

Here another one that someone post there.

"How about another secret built-in start menu.

1)Go to Windows 8 Desktop
2)Right Click on Taskbar and Select “Toolbars”, then Select “New Toolbar”
3)On the Folder Selection Dialog box opened , navigate to “C:\ProgramData\Microsoft\Windows\Start Menu\Programs”
4)Click “Select Folder”
Once the above steps are completed , you will find a Shortcut called “Programs” on your Taskbar."

I honestly hate Windows 8. Useless without a touchscreen and even then, I'm not going to use said touchscreen daily anyway

Windows 7 may be my last purchase of Windows new [Re: Naoki]

Been working with Kubuntu 12.10 and I have to say, it is going pertty well. Can't play 100% of my games, but between MAME and a couple playable between WINE and PLAYONLINUX, I may be happy going that way...

Clarify: useless new [Re: Naoki]
#302100 - 01/07/13 11:42 AM

What do you THINK it doesn't do that Win 7 does? When I login, I go directly to my desktop, complete with XP style start menu. Every option I've ever had (or remember using, anyway) in Windows 7 is here (and MORE). Please make a valid example so I can test it myself, then I'll stop telling you Win 8 haters to stop being retarded.
