Pasty white PC's from 2003, yummy.
Rather clean box though. Look at the power supply fan - was this thing ever even on location?

I sprayed it out with compressed air and a hair dryer before taking the pics. It had about an average amount of dust buildup compared to PC based games I've bought before. Maybe a little less. Definitely not the cleanest.

It depends on how mamedevs choose to handle them, but we have to start backing them up regularly now if we want them to ever be in mame.

Most PC based games are easy to dump. You plug in the hard drive to another PC and read an exact copy with WinHex. A few are more tricky but most are easy to dump.

I don't know what you mean by category. Supposedly someone has already dumped all the GT games up to a certain point but I don't have them so I can't buy any until they are added to mame, working or not, or else I might waste money/duplicate effort.

I don't want to get in a big argument or anything, but those stickers say it runs on xp embedded.... most xp embedded apps can be ran on regular old xp (read a computer) with minimal effort. So a loader would make more sense, at least until PCs get a lot more powerful and/or a version of windows is released that doesn't support xp apps. Some sort of hasp dongle emulator (that sounded dirty) would have to be written into the loader though.
Maybe it's time to start work on M.A.D.E. ? (multiple arcade dongle emulator)

IIRC the GT Live series is Linux-based on PC hardware. GT Fore is much more MAME-targetable if I can ever find the DVD with all the dumps again (I had it two moves ago...)

As far as I know it would most likely need XP 32 bit and a graphics card that was close to the original or it might give a warning and glitches. Also there aren't keyboard keys set for everything so to have it actually play you would have to hack it up.

So... the HDD is bust or does it run from CD? Odd to see it not showing in the device scan, or am I being stupid and these were taken whilst the HDD was out for dumping?

The HD was removed when I took the bios pics. If it's installed it runs straight to Windows and autoboots the game. With it removed I have plenty of time to see the bios splash and hit delete.

Yes. Because MAMEdev, a group that includes one of the designers/lead programmers of Microsoft Virtual PC, has no idea how to emulate a modern PC on a modern PC.

if it uses directx then it should be tied to one video card or even ATI or nvidia locked.

Virtual PC does not do 3d video cards and the sound is sound blaster 16.

It doesn't appear to be locked to one card. They did revisions to the PC hardware they used over the life of the series which went at least from 2002 to 2006, maybe longer. I booted it on a different XP PC for the hell of it and it booted with a message saying some graphics might not show correctly because of incompatibilities but it kept booting past it, but then stopped later when (I think) it looked for the dongle. I can try it in there some time with the dongle but it's boxed.

You missed the point entirely.. And hello? The voodoo card fro Gauntlet Legends/DL is a 3D PC video card. I know this to be fact since I ran a PC with the Obsidian 2 card and the game with a generic V2 card, yet it's emulated in MAME.
Don't doubt the devs and their ability to code.
