WOW!! Mame is fast
#297125 - 10/06/12 10:21 PM

Just went from a core 2 duo 2.66 to a Core i7 4Ghz, (3770W 3.5 Ghz overclocled to 4Ghz.) and WOW!! Mame screams!! NFL Blitz, Crusin USA/Exotica etc, are all 100 percent frame rate with no dropped frames. Only thing that I found so far that is still slow is the 39-in-1 Mame bootleg. Still getting 27% speed or somewhere there about. But who cares??! All 39 games are in Mame anyhow. Would be fun to play with it with the front end, but I am happy with the rest.

Even Stunt Cycle in the Dice Emulator runs at 100%!!!!

Nice! I'm still rocking the C2D (E8400 3.0GHz OC'd to 3.6GHz), but been thinking of upgrading to a Core i7 system.

What motherboard did you decide to go with?

And what kind of FPS do you see during the Ikaruga countdown? I'm bouncing between 40% and 41%.

I got the AsRock Fatal1ty Professional. $179 at Micro Center $219 at NewEgg. I was a Gigabyte fan, but I needed more options than what they offered. I have 14 USB ports (8 USB 3.0 and 6 USB 2.0). Actually there is one more, there is a Fatal1ty mouse port that is also USB. It has 2 PCI ports whereas most of the Gigabytes only had 1. It even has a Parallel Ata (old style ribbon), FLOPPY port, and a SERIAL Port connector!! Also has a boatload of Sata 3 and 6's as well. This is the perfect board. As mentioned, CPU is 3770W. Memory is 16Gb (2 x 8 ) Corsair Vengeance DDR3. Windows is on a 60GB OCZ SSD. Video Card is a Nvidia 250 GTS recycled from my old system. The 3770W Ivy Bridge has Intel HD 4000 built in, and did a pretty good job on its own, but I like my Nvidia. Windows Experience rating is a 7.0 out of a possible 7.9.

Ugh... A little better but not a lot... 54%. I am running Mame 145, not sure if they dud any progress since 145. Just have not had time to upgrade.

Another nice feature... should you overclock too hard, and need to reset the bios, no need to open the case, there is a BIOS reset button on the back case. I just took it to 4 Ghz, I know it will go faster, but A) I have no need right now, and B) I am only running the stock fan that came with the 3770. Nice thing is it will overclock it for you automatically. Just tell it in the Bios how fast you want to go, and it makes all the adjustments for you. You can still do it manually, but the auto option is nice. Did 4Ghz no prob.
