DU Update: Whoring it out in Dodge City
#295583 - 09/12/12 02:10 AM

Kale wrote trojans for the Raiden II / Legionnaire hardware to understand the hitbox detection etc. I've been running them on my Legionnaire board. You can see it running here:

http://www.sendspace.com/file/h877eu

Also Brian got some Dodge City boards. One was a drop in and the other will be sent to Charles to read out some funkiness. I'm working on some other stuff if you want to donate.

You just know whatever means of communication Kale uses is gonna be flooded with idiots spamming him about Raiden II.

I don't really believe in the rabid user progress apocalypse theory (Rupat). I find it more annoying when progress is made in one game and then people ask about fixing something impossibly hard in an unrelated game/driver.

Crap. I wasn't paying attention and I almost installed that "sendspace accelerator" bullsh*t.

To anyone else trying to download this file, make sure you uncheck the box before you hit the "download" button.

I could definitely see why, since that's another form of trolling.

Raiden II in particular is one of those games people have been waiting to see emulated for awhile, along with Marvel vs Capcom II previously, so I kinda figured there'd be a lot more noise than usual, instead of what you'd see for some gambling game, Spanish Bubble-Bobble knockoff, or Korean Arkanoid.

I'm guessing Kale is waiting for the bullets to show up before posting about it, or maybe he believes in Rupat.

I skipped through the clip.
I think missed the good part?
No offense just wondering what it means, a step in the right direction I guess.

Nothing like jizz in my pants.

It's a trojan video, they are always like that, usually just putting numbers on the screen that someone will later have to manually type (not an exciting task either). I know a lot of people want to see progress happening in Raiden 2 and the others and you can literally see the hitbox detection being figured out in the video. It's not really usually for public consumption but I figured some people here would want to see progress happening even if it's not in the form of digital boobies. It's either I can post it or keep everyone in the dark about the grit, so I posted it. There are dozens of quiet geekhappy Raiden II fans right now I'm sure. In the future if I mention something is a trojan video, it will be more of the same so you can skip it with the understanding that it's just a bunch of numbers etc.

MAMEdev in general believes in RUPAT. I think that your posting this may well end this round of progress before Raiden II is playable.

Also, there's nothing new to show in Raiden II. It still looks exactly like it has for the last year+.

Godzilla/Zero Team/Legionnaire all have real improvements though.

Well it was converted to use the collision detection routines found from trojaning and it's being worked on, so... Watch out, Rupat el getcha.

For what it's worth there's a local bar that has THREE fully functional Dodge City cabs. I don't know about the logistics about seeing if someone would like to take a nice weekend vacation near Ford City PA to do some on-site dumping if I work out the details with the owner.

I'm going there today to grab some photos and some video of the machines in action. At least you'll all have a reference to go by when debugging the emulation.

I'm going back to bed. I need to charge my own batteries as well as my cameras'. :-)

It is on the totally wrong side of PA from where I'm located (in the southeast area)

Kale still doesn't have a clue about how to make that happen. The only new thing that I know of is the fact that nothing seems to trip the sprite offset, so it's probably a result of a flag that lies somewhere in the code.

Ah, I also need a Raiden DX board sooner or later. The ROM banking is so annoying that definitely needs a trojan on that one (and I already have an idea about how to test it out).

I'm pretty sure Tormod has a DX and I gave him an HD webcam. ShouTime has one but I don't know if he has a camera. Maybe on a cell phone. I can get one and record it in grayscale but, I think Tormod should have it.

The bummer is that it's not the bar that has rule of the machines but the operator as always. Given that the machines are considered "controversial" in the eyes of the law within podunk Armstrong county and that I respect the barkeep the tragic fact is that unless you have the "heritage" to run a full-blown casino then poker/slot machines are going to be seen as not so K-RaD K00O1.

I did my best...but that doesn't mean that they're out of bounds for eternity.

Welcome to red-area Pennsylvania. :-(
