Holy crap that's a lot of work. The part about the missing sound channel is interesting. Maybe that explains why there's no third AY chip on the (otherwise perfect) "ATO" bootleg, the bootleggers never managed to figure out how to hook it up so they simply left it out.
If I'm reading it right, he has up + the jump button combined which means you can't use normal "low jumps" as part of your playing style anymore. From the way he's jumping in the video it sure looks that way.
On the real thing Bomb Jack jumps higher when you push the stick up while jumping. So you'll be "air braking" (tapping the button while in the air) more than usual when playing his FPGA implementation because you're always doing "high jumps".
