For those who were around during that era, was Andro Dunos at all popular, considering all the other games on the Neo Geo at that time? It just looks like yet another Gradius or R-Type clone.

I think the only NeoGeo games I saw during that time period in the arcade were Baseball Stars 2 and a couple of fighters, but that was just my town at the time, can't speak for outside of it. Definitely never saw Andro D.

I had an Andro Dunos cart back when it was new and I don't remember them offering an art package for that game. They did start doing this for Samuari Shodown II and other hot titles -- full marquee replacement and side stickers. Surprising to see a "dedicated" andro dunos of sorts.
