Cool WIP: Off-Road Challenge now playable
#289663 - 06/17/12 04:38 AM

A new contributor (Daniel Filner) got in touch with Aaron with some math fixes for the TMS3203x which corrected the polygon graphics in Off-Road Challenge so it's playable now. Very cool!

Cruis'n World uses also a TMS32031 CPU and has the following MAMEtesters #bugs:

02352: Textures for automatic/manual selection get overwritten for certain selections (England, Germany, France, Italy).
02354: In attract mode, the right side of sky looks like it has wrapped.
02219: (64-bit) Cruisn' World will eventually crash in demo mode [~10mins].
01798: Graphic and input problem. Choosing manual gear you can see strange green artifacts when you set neutral gear.

Are these fixed now?

What about these games:
Primal Rage: The game has protection which isn't fully emulated.
T-MEK: The game has protection which isn't fully emulated.
Metal Maniax: THIS GAME DOESN'T WORK PROPERLY (Can this be fixed now?)

Thanks for this news.
Do you know if these fixes enhance also the emulation of another cool driving game which is Cruis'n Exotica ?

The Atari games use the 32031 strictly as a sound synthesizer (the "CAGE" audio system) so this definitely will have no impact on their advanced protection chips.

As I mentioned on-list, these changes make Exotica different. Not better, different. (And arguably worse).

Sweet! I've always kept it in the main gamelist of my driving cab despite the glitches. It was fairly playable if you switched views and didn't mind seeing the other trucks through hills.

If this works 100% without any fail on the frameskip timing game, so crusin USA and World versions, must be fixed too.
When we choose a car and when is go for a race some frameskip fails.
