That's correct, but how can you possibly know that..?

Nobody had these growing up in the US.

I love reading about the many types of computers out there. That includes those on the other side of the pond. So some of that info stuck in my head. Interestingly enough, a neutered version of the Sinclair was marketed over here for a very short time by Timex. It didn't go over well.

My fave site concerning the Speccy is http://www.worldofspectrum.org

I also love comparing the differences between dialects of BASIC. The INK and PAPER statements were a dead giveaway. :-)

So remember: Not all of us over here in Eagleland are ignorant of technology abroad. ;-)

No, this would need rewriting to work on the C64. C64 BASIC doesn't have PRINT AT, PAPER or INK and the for/next loop syntax is different.

C64 BASIC is not for the faint of heart, AFAIK you needed to POKE memory locations to change the color of the screen and simple things like that.

The irony is that I'd play with the computers that were on sale at Kmart when I was a kid. And thus that's why I remember the Timex Sinclair. Cute little computer hampered by very poor microdesign choices.

I've played around with the Vic-20. But I never played around with a C64. Though, thanks to emulation, I should remedy that. ;-)

I was referring to the first(Gatinho's) post and it works like a charm.

Heh, yeah but Gatinho never asked on which computer his program would run. I did.
His two-liner probably runs on every single version of BASIC in existence.

Bekki was replying to me, not to Gatinho.

There are a few(~3) ZX Spectrum games in MAME, too.
One of them is all time classic JetPac :

Sorry a little mismatch
Spectrum has one of the most intuitive BASIC interpreters and many future game coders used it for their pioneers days of hacking/programming.

POKE 53280,0
POKE 53281,0
PRINT CHR$(30)

That was always my favorite screen setup on a color monitor. Kinda emulated period green/monochrome diplays.

I was playing that game a few days ago in MAME. Very simple game design. But it is fun fueling your rocket or shuttle then launching only to have it fall back down to the surface.

Or is it a different planet? The critters are different but the platforms remain exactly where they were.

The frickin' laser beam rules! :-)

One of the only games I remember for the Sinclair ZX Spectrum from playing it a museum is Jet Set Willy and it's monophonic version of Hall of the mountin king.

I was watching a video of someone reviewing the Sinclair and my god did he go through a lot to just hook the damn thing up to his TV since he was American.

Best comment I read on the video: "Simple way to setup the sinclair, move to the UK"

There seems to be much love for the Spectrum online. Having never even seen one in person, let alone used one, I have zero nostalgia for it. Every time I see a screenshot, all I can think is that it had fairly crappy graphics, even by the standards of the day.

Right now I'm downloading a bunch of Sinclair ZX documentation. And an old BASIC programming book that I would borrow repeatedly from the local Freeport library caught my eye.

This was before I got a PCjr. I usually programmed on my cousin's and school's TRS-80 CoCo's.

I'm browsing through it and memories are flooding back. I'm going to load up my OCR software and convert those listings into UTF-8. Then I'm going to go retro and play around with GWBASIC or BASICA via an IBM PC 5150 emulator (PCE/ibmpc). :-)

I'd love to find a decent PCjr emulator.
