They obviously had enough backing to make a couple hundred of them.
Back in the late 80s, I was imagining something very like this that was part of the intake on my flight pack. No turbines! Probably still have the power issue, though.

Yeah, you can buy them at places like Bed, Bath and Beyond. They're not that rare. ![](//www.mameworld.info/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif)

They have blades... in the base. Filed with Dyson's "no loss of suction," which actually means "powered off as soon as there's any noticeable loss of suction." Works mostly as advertised, despite lies.

I'd be interested in seeing smoke go through those. Kinda like those car commercials where they have the car in the wind tunnel and a trail of smoke going over it.

No idea Stil..I've never seen nor heard of bladeless fans.
Maybe you can get one in São Paulo or Rio De Janeiro. Belo Horizonte is kind of rural, it takes a while for new stuff to appear here. Online, most people are not even exposed to these things, most people don't speak or read any English and everybody uses Google in PT-BR - which means you only get Brazilian sites in your search results. To add to it, BH people seem very conservative and not at all curious to try new/different things.

Heck, it still works. In fact, most of the air, I expect, is not propelled directly by the little turbine (or are we calling them "turbans" now?), but pulled through the hoop by the reduced pressure (pushed through by normal pressure, yes) caused by the air that is pushed by the blades.
The only really "bladeless" air circulator I've ever seen would be the "ionic" things. Most of those just didn't do anything, and the ones that may have were just as expensive as this fan.

All ya need is a decent fan with a heavy-duty motor. With a little maintenance to remove dust/contaminant buildup along with the addition of a drop of machine lubricant an inexpensive fan can last a couple decades or so.
Besides, why would anyone buy a very expensive "fan" that doesn't have any blades? Is the buyer afraid something may get chopped off or something? Such people should learn that fans are meant for BLOWING OR SUCKING AIR! LOL! ;-)
