$30 for a simple am/FM Walkman...and you can't give me a single AAA battery with it?
I'm done with your shit. Last disappointment from you.

Batteries would enable piracy.

Blame the idiot consumers. The product sits on shelf for years before selling then the moron pops in the generic AAA that is packaged with the unit. The Walkman works for 30 minutes before it dies and the idiot returns it to the store.

That's for the collector's market. Who wants to put a sealed Walkman on display and then lose sleep over whether or not the battery has corroded and is eating into the radio?

Why are you listening to radio? That's blatant piracy as you aren't paying royalties to listen to music that is broadcast over the airwaves.
You need to pay a fee before getting to listen to any music and have to subscribe to radio, and then only listen to what Sony allows when Sony allows it.
After all that's what Sony and Microsoft want to do to videogames and what "works" for video games "works" for movies and music.
I bet you let your "friends" listen to your music too, you evil, filthy, pirate who's highhandedly killing the music industry.

Well, now Sony has lost sales from both the idiot consumer and myself. Sounds like a solid move to me.

It's actually the retail store that loses out on profit more so then Sony because those products are marked up about 40% and can be as much as even 80% of course the range of margin depends.
You should have read the packaging closer and most of the am/FM Walkman packages are almost completely see through, so you know if the AA/AAA are included or not.

And now sony has also lost the retailers business due to lack of sales.

It was packaged in clear plastic, but covered 100% with cardboard. I bought three wireless mice as well. None of them said 2-AA batteries included, but all came with batteries. Installed no less. The mice were $12 each.
This Walkman was $30. It has AM, FM, and a clock. Most likely using an IC that is <$1 in bulk. I don't think that expecting a $30 walkman to contain the ONE AAA battery it requires is an outrageous thing to expect. I'm half tempted to go back and buy the off-brand "walkman" for $10, just to see if it comes with a damned battery.

You could simulate AM radio these days by playing back donkey sounds on infinite loop, and FM radio by looping a five song playlist in the genre of your choice. Unless you *really* need to know what time it is, I fear you've wasted $30.

I like to listen to ball games a work. Can't stream. Phone package would cost me an extra $10 a month in data, and $40-70 for the season pass or whatever they call it now. I went with the Sony radio feeling it gave me the best shot at a signal in my tin can of a building.
I fear I'm an educated consumer who made the best choices he could...and just wanted a damned battery so he didn't miss the cubs home opener.

What's next? Some kind of recordable media to "share" these bootleg recordings with your other pirates "friends"? No one will buy their own Walkmans if they can listen to yours for free! By yourself you could destroy the entire broadcast industry!! Then where would we be?
I bet you'd even have backyard BBQ's & grill out with these criminals while listening to your FREE broadcast. Then what smarty guy?
And so on... You and your kind will be the ruination of our civilization...

Home recording is killing the music industry! And sharing is bad!
But now it doesn't require being at home anymore regarding portable devices, does it? You can do it in the streets if'n ya want! LOL!

Actually now that I give this more thought, you should just buy a cheapo tiny boombox that has a headphone jack. Wal-Mart or most retail stores still have a few choices for brand new or you could hit up the Donation stores.
Then you can use quality cans and if needed a headphone extension cable or setup wireless ones so you can move around the office.
