I hope one day ppl will start creating the needed artworks for all these fruits machines, in order to have them playable and more documented... Same for the pinballs, seeing a pattern blinking is no fun, but I would love having the playfield for pinballs, their respectives backglasses etc illuminated as they should with their lights patern, same for all the fruits machines...

Pinballs are a part of my youth...

Can you use MAME in place of PinMAME/VpinMAME?

Consider it high comedy....sincere tragedy....whatever...don't take it personally.

in place of pinmame, yes, (pinmame was a mame derivative) as pinmame emulates only the display and the inputs... Vpinmame has a simulation layer over it iirc, so that's not planned yet i guess...

Since pinballs are now included in MAME, what does MAME with these is exactly what did pinmame.

Slot machines => http://newlifegames.net

Reel slots, video slots, pachislots, video poker etc. (the machines which don't fit into the fruit machine category)

I'll add a Fruit machines section at arcade-history and start to move fruit machines into this section (they are in the Slot Machines section as of this writing).

Pretty much. MAME's goal is to emulate what it can emulate - in this case, the inputs/controls/graphics/scoring so you could essentially 'replace' a copy of MAME running a pinball game and place in an actual pinball game, hook up the controls and have it be the same behavior.

That's not to say there might not be enhancement in the future. Artwork support, while currently a bit too limited, might in fact get some revamping in the near future to better allow for interaction with much of the physical part of these 'mechanical' games and others.

As of right now, only a couple developers have even touched anything pinball yet and only a driver or two really do anything currently. It's hoped that this tide will change..

Wondering...PinMAME already has most of the newer pinball systems working. How differently did they go with the drivers for those from a regular set of bios, game, & sound roms?At least for now, what would it take to plug those from Pinmame into regular MAME? At least then sound roms would be playable and able to be toyed with. And it seems like their pixelated back boards & digital score displays work fine (maybe this would help with the fruit displays & sounds or other way around?). At least that might be a start for later on...

Later...

Pessimist: Oh, this can't get any worse!
Optimist: Yes, it can!

From what I have read PinMAME is based on a really old version of the MAME core/code somewhere around 0.80 so I'm guessing a simple C&P solution is not feasible at all considering how much MAME has evolved and changed since then.

Visual Pimame didn't simulate anything, it emulated the ROMs and all the inputs and outputs including display, lamps, targets, sensors, flipper buttons etc and then Visual Pinball wired up a play-field and other elements to those inputs and outputs and created a functioning pinball table.
