Ok, the over-sized game selection dialog was crap. Here's a quick new FB Alpha release to fix it.

Here's the whats new;

  • Added clone of Caveman Ninja to the Data East drivers [JacKc, Corrado Tomaselli]
  • Added bootleg of Side Pocket to the Data East drivers [Barry, Corrado Tomaselli]
  • Allowed Neo Geo drivers to disable the watchdog reset, and used it to fix Neo Pong v1.0 which is now added to release builds [Barry]
  • Changed the game selection dialog back to the old size and updated the dialog to be resizable [Barry]
  • Fixed issue with disappearing preview images in game selection dialog when switching back to the window [Barry]
  • Applied latest libsnes patches [Themaister]
  • Standardised revision info in game titles [Barry]
  • Made inclusion of png.h in burner.h optional in makefile via INCLUDE_LIB_PNGH flag [Barry]
  • Updated the helpfile with the game selection dialog changes [Barry]

Could someone tell me what is the difference between FBA & MAME ?
In other words :
Why I should use FBA instead of MAME or vice versa ?

Supposedly it was primarily a speed issue where FBA was faster in many normal game cases way back when as well as having unique video filters and such. I'm not sure how pronounced the speed differences are nowadays - but the project still has a following, is open source and continues.

If you have a low-spec PC FBA is a much better choice.
If you want some graphic filters like hq4x/2x/whatever, FBA is a good choice (though MAME's new system is pretty nice).
If you want netplay, FBA is a better choice.
If you want a nice GUI, FBA is a better choice.
If you want an emulator that has been ported to a ton of devices, FBA is a slightly better choice.

If you want a ton of games, MAME is a better choice.
If you want better emulation, MAME is often the better choice (better=closer to the actual machine).
If you want more releases, MAME is a better choice.
If you have a higher-end PC, MAME is good choice.
If you like video recording, MAME is a better choice (Though there are FBA builds with video recording).
If you want a more stable emulator, MAME is your best bet (though FBA is getting a lot better with some of the latest improvements).

There are probably a lot more for each, but you should really just try FBA and see if it is for you.

Thanks for Your quick answers.
P.S. These are more or less aesthetic "reasons"; I expected practical reasons why I should move to FBA : i.e. different set of games or unemulated in MAME - but working in FBA maybe ?!
In this stadium of MAME emulation, only emulators I need besides of MAME are :
DEMUL (for playing Naomi/Atomiswave games)
SuperModel (Model 3 games, obviously)

Emulation speed is very practical. :S
However, if you're looking for a difference in games, there's not much reason to switch to FBA.
FBA does a few consoles (Sega MD/Genesis and PC-Engine/TG-16), but does not do the Mortal Kombat series and a quite a few others.
