Hi,
Does anybody know what this DEC-22vo ISA card is ? I can only seem to find a few references to mame. This card has a connector that looks like it connects to a 3 1/2 inch floppy cable, it what looks like flash memory on it?
I purchased a 486 pc which only had this card, another Data East card, just another ISA card with a serial connection. There was also a PCI video output / capture card and a CD-Rom drive. There was also some heavy duty power cables from the power supply with strange connectors sticking out the back of the pc.
The strange thing is, that it could boot into to dos, japanese dos at that, with no hard disk installed ? Must have had something to do with this card...
Was this maybe used to develop arcade games?
Thanks

Interesting! I reckon this card is actual arcade hardware rather than a development tool. I can't find any references to Data East PC-based hardware so this is either a prototype or something rather esoteric.
The card acts a flash disk (the LFDC-1016 is a flash disk controller IC) and thus the Microsoft sticker is the MS-DOS license. It appears there's 2MB of flash dedicated to storage; I'm assuming that the actual game/software would be stored on a CD and that the flash disk is only used to boot the system. What are the contents of the disk? (perhaps you could take a photo of the root listing?)
It appears a further 2MB of flash is dedicated to YMZ280B sound samples. A dump of the flash may yield some clues.
Presumably the backplate connector would lead to a JAMMA or I/O interface board.
Could you provide photos of the other hardware components? (motherboard and video card in particular)
Cheers, Phil

Hi,
Huh, sound interesting.
The motherboard does not seem to be anything special. Its a DFI G486VPB Rev 0A with a 486 DX2 66Mhz with 32meg of RAM.
The video card is a S3 to the Max 64.
It looked like it had a striped down version of DOS 5.0, with cd-rom driver.
Here is a photo of the other data east card. I think this must be a serial port or a game port for a joypad?

They guy a purchased it from was not much help and it did not come with any disk's or a hard drive.

Looks more and more like a Data-East Laser Disc based system to me. The I/O card must be the DOS system with the IDC connector leading to JAMMA/I/O. The Capture card must go to the laser disc's output and the DE-9 port must connect to the Laserdisc's serial port for control. Could be a prototype or just a rare/unknown version.

It's been suggested that this may be from "Ninsou Kanteidan", a fortune telling machine released around October 1995. Apparently it has a camera to take a photo of the player's face and a printer to provide a hardcopy of the player's fortune.

Hi,
Thanks for all the responses.
Not really sure what to do with the card though, as the pc is just being used to play doom & other old pc games.

Like Phil said, it looks like there's 3 functions on the card: 1) a bootable flash ROM disk, 2) sound with the YMZ280b, and 3) JAMMA interfacing (probably a custom cable goes from the big connector to a JAMMA setup.
Would be interesting to get dumped.
