MK3Fan sent us an early version of Mortal Kombat Turbo. It crashes in attract mode (on the real hardware) if you don't start a game quickly. Could be a one of a kind kit that was never sold. Or maybe the protection chip has fried on the real hardware and it's just an earlier kit. I am not sure yet. Apparently it has a lot of differences from the 3.1 version.

Thanks Smitt. The game resets on both my Kombo board AND bulldawg's. I was hoping that dumping/ripping them would make it stop, but oh well. Thanks for the effort. I am always happy to help the Mame world.

It could still happen, there are a lot of possibilities. How did the roms come, just by themselves or were they in a daughter card? If they were loose roms they could have needed a different pcb/gal that you don't have and in mame it's going to run like it expects the pcb/gal from Turbo 3.1 if it's loaded over that. A rom could be bad but it's kind of early for bitrot and if they were fried you'd get different crcs every read.

It came in a Kombo board set like all the other hacks, not loose. The game plays perfectly except the Kano reset issue. If I replace the Rev 3 boot roms with these in the zip folder, is the game playable? How did you get the screen caps?

Backup your mkyturbo.zip and then rename the new dumps to the u89 and u105 names of mkyturbo and drop them over and it plays like that, boots etc. but you get the Kano Krash

So the 3.1 hack, have you tested that in this new daughtercard and it played OK?

As a matter of fact, yes. I have also played the Nifty Kombo and Nifty Kombo 666 in the same daughter board that the 3.0 Turbo kept resetting. They all work great. No issues. Only the 3.0 resets.

Well bitrot is possible. I don't know if anyone will bother trying to figure out if it occurred or not. If it was originally like this and was supposed to run with this revision of the other roms then I guess it's got to be a proto in which case I don't know why it ever left the bootlegger's hands... Luckily for playing in mame, attract mode isn't necessary. So it's cool that we got it even if a rom is slightly bad.

I was 12 years old when the first mortal kombat came out in the arcades, I didn't know back then there were so many clone and hacked versions !

They are really rare and probably all from the same company. Not the same as with SF2...

I dunno, I get bootleg MK boards all the time, I have a stack of them in my loft in fact.
Speaking of MK boots though, is the smaller square MK boot dumped? Just got one today but never seen an MK like this before. Almost looks like a compressed verision of those long single boards.

The boots where they made cheaper hardware for the whole game, mask roms for gfx etc., maybe switched the copyright to yawdim are common and uninteresting. The upgrade kits for the original hardware where they changed the program / gameplay are extremely rare. I have dumped a couple of the smaller all boot hardware yawdim types, one was added in the last couple of updates, the other matched every rom with the parent real set.
