I think that pleasuredome still recommends that you use version 1.7.7
That's what I'm using.
I'm also experimenting with Tribler but I don't totally trust it yet.

I was up until 3:15am playing with the settings.
None of the reccomendations worked except for the cache size. (changed from 32MB to 512MB)
At one point, uTorrent was running so bad that it locked up and caused IE to run out of memory and restart.
Then I unchecked the "disable Windows caching" boxes.
It got more stable after that but still had minor dips occurring every few minutes.

Use µTorrent(Micro Torrent) instead - 2.2.1 is current version. I am using this program 5/6 years and have no problems at all. Highly recommended from me !

If I use uTorrent, I REFUSE to go any higher on versions than 2.2.1.
It's just like Azureus. 2.5.something was da BOMB. Then they started making it a media/sharing/library abomination. So that was when I started leaving that one too.

What antivirus are you using? I've seen odd contention issue like this with AVG.

OP,try these cache settings.I just upgraded from 1.7.7 to the current and I was getting the disk overload problem,changed these settings,now I dont get it anymore.And I have downloaded some pretty big torrents yesterday.Hope it helps
Use these settings,find yourself a Linux torrent,and let your speed max out.

Those are pretty much the settings I settled on except for the bottom two check boxes and 512 instead of 64.
