Ville's update
#275759 - 02/12/12 12:59 AM
|
|
|
I did a major rewrite on the video/gticlub.c 3D renderer. This fixes pretty much all the remaining missing polygons and texture errors. I also identified and implemented many of the missing features, such as gouraud shading, lighting and fog.
Solar Assault looks pretty sweet now (even more so in motion)

Wow, that looks pretty nice. How much of a speed hit did it take with the fixes, out of curiosity? This is probably one of the last few games I'm really looking forward to-- it's not that great from all reports, but it's quite unique in the series.

Look forward to it. As a Gradius fan, I love it. There is an arcade in LA that use to have it; I'd stop by whenever I had the chance just to play it.
Think of it as a cross between Gradius and Space Harrier.

RELAX and just have fun. Remember, it's all about the games.

I've seen shakycam footage of it in the past, but the machine itself is apparently incredibly rare.
I imagine keeping the machine operational is fairly tough for some of the early 3D accelerator setups, though.

It might be fun in mame with a mouse. The arcade stick for it is unwieldy, plays really shite imo. I played it once and that was enough.

Actually, this game reminds me more like Starfox on the SNES and Sylpheed for the Sega CD since the gameplay looks very similar.

The term you're all looking for is "rail shooter"
Silpheed's conversion for SegaCD was a little disappointing for me. The original game on PC(-88)/Amiga/Apple IIgs was an odd-duck vertical shmup with some sprite-scaling fake perspective and a top-10-of-all-time soundtrack, and the SegaCD version was essentially StarFox, they didn't even keep the music.

Surely you've been around long enough to know the answer to that question.
It would be weird if suddenly MAME wasn't cross platform anymore and only Windows Linux users could play GTI club and Solar Assault.

GPU-based...
...Plugins?
The day MAME crashes immediately on hitting [Enter] or runs at 9fps in Pac-Man because I don't have the latest and greatest ultra-HD video card is the day I move onto something else.

no, not a plugin, GPU based video integrated into MAME.

|
|

I know what you mean, you are referring to pushing threads over to the GPU due to the relative power of GPUs these days. It never had anything to do with using the GPU for 3D in the way you think though and never will.

Solar Assault looks beautiful and there's no speed hit that I can tell, I thought it would be slower now. The title music is out of sync with itself and sounds like someone dropped a bunch of random notes into an arpeggiator. I don't see any difference in GTI club...but I don't know what to look for. It still has those two gigantic FBI logos looming in the sky box Wave Shark now has nice water and rolling waves but there's no sky yet. Hang Pilot runs but there's no graphics anymore, it flashes white a couple of times and the attract mode sound effects play. I don't have the R0Mz for Operation Thunder Hurricane.
(This is not meant to be a bug report or anything, just an FYI for other users so don't get mad, I know Ville knows all of this already)
