mame gaunlet lengend issues roms/chd

hi there,im new to this testing
does any buddy know why gaunlet legends
will play fine through 1st level but second level
freezes in mame v0144u6 i have been testing mame
for about a year & a half i have not found an
answer? these are the specs of my rig:
phenon II 6 core 3.3 proccesor,nvida 560ti
video card 8 gig ram asus mother board or mobo#m4a78lt-m
os windows 7 ultimate 64bit.
I have tried other versions of mame but still
have the same issue?
I own the pcb board for this game
i sot at first maybe redumping the roms
but,not quite shure how to do this,but i dought this
is the case.
any sugestions?

It's a bug in emulation, nothing that redumping the roms would take care of. Altough MAME Devs are activly looking for newer revisions of games and I bet they would be glad to knoww what version of Gauntlet Legends you have.

Ver.3 board with 1.5 upgrade rom and 27'' gaunlet legends rom if im reading the board right.
Have you heard of anyone els having the same problem?

I take it when you say the second level you mean the mountain stage or similar. If not, it maybe worht you deleting the NVRAM and DIFF files and restarting the game.
I think you also have an undumped version of the game AFAIK. All I can see in MAME is version 1.6 and 1.2 so I'm wodering now if you'd be willing to dump your version for preservation in mame?

the game that i have downloaded online is 1.6 i dowloaded both 1.2 and 1.6, but 1.6
is the one that freezes.
this game is the one that freezes some times on the first level and second
level somtime i can make it to third before freezing.
i have tried to delete nv ram and diffs still same issue?

These are known issues with Gauntlet Legends emulation. They are logged (have been for years now) but no one has been able to figure out why it happens. There is one Dev that is giving the issue a set a fresh eyes to see if it cannot be resolved. It's so popular, it's basically listed twice :P

Ok, good to hear.
There's a few parts the dev's are interested in. There's a security chip, the Vegas I/O chip and the harddrive.
Obviously the hard disk is the easiest part to dump as long as you have a PC with CHDMAN and an IDE slot. Details on how to do this have been written here: http://guru.mameworld.info/tutorials/dumping_cds_&_hdds/index.html#hd
I suggest reading through twice and double checking to make sure it's dumped right. I would name the resulting CHD as "gauntleg15.chd". Don't worry about the next part saying how to recreate the image. There are various peole on the forums you could contact, Smitdogg, R.Belmont come off the top of my mind.
For the Security chip and the Vegas I/O, unless you have your own ROM dumping kit and are confident with it, it maybe best to contact a dev about dumping and shipment of the chips (make sure to use anti-static foam to put the chips onto and place the foam with chips into an anti-static bag and a padded envolope for best protection). As above, Smitdogg and R.Belmont are probably the best to talk to about it.

If your regular hard drive has 2 much smaller connectors, it's SATA and you will be unable to dump the HDD yourself.

There's various ways to connect the drive to your PC. The best way would be to use your motherboard's IDE port if you have one. Bascially the setup would be like so:
Another option if you don't have a built-in IDE port would be to get a IDE->SATA converter to convert the IDE harddisk's connection to a SATA interface which would very roughly look like this:
A third is to use an external drive adaptor such as a harddisk bay or adaptor cable to convert it to USB. There's loads that exist but I have heard that some cable based adaptors don't work as good as some enclosures.

The computer I have shown and the drive pictured I know won't be the same but it's a rough setup to help.

Don't interfere when the devs are trying to dumb things down. In this case, if he doesn't know IDE and SATA on sight, he shouldn't be attempting to dump the drive himself. Not a slam on him; many people happily use computers without popping the case open. It's safer for him and safer for the continued functioning of his game that he get someone else to do the dump.

Though you are right about finding a closer person, I just want to say I have loads of experience with hardware and with CHDMAN. I've used it countless times for my own projects or backups. Plus I have CompTIA A+ 701 and 702 certification (probably means nothing to you, but it's based around hardware).

You're not doing anything, I might be interveaning when not need though.
I'm just confused by your statment. Did you mean you would send the entire game board to be dumped and returned with the CHDs, roms and board, or that the dumper could keep the board?

not sure? I sold my updated arcade machine
of gauntlet legends with the arcade cabinet
was working 100% not sure ware it is now. my neighbor
moved, so i can't turn it on now it's just the pcb
roms and chd. all i know is on the roms it sticker
is gountlet legends 1.5 bootleg rom for one rom
and the other 27'' gauntlet legends 27'' u37.

We have the 1.5 rom. Does your hard drive have a Midway sticker on it with something like 1.6? It would look similar to the pink sticker in the pic Naoki posted earlier. If not I would assume it's a backup made from a mame dump, but you could dump it anyway to make sure. I don't know what you mean by 27". Pics would help.

sorry, theres no pink sticker on it
the arcade i up graded had one and it was 1.6
i no longer have that one all i have is the pcb and rom/chd
no cabinet any more.
hard drive looks like my old hp hardrive.
sorry, i don't have a camera
to show any of the pictures
im still willing to send it if you want to look

I'd happily take it but I'm in the US so you'd have international shipping costs to deal with. It's unclear what you mean by upgraded though. I dumped some upgrade kits for it a few years ago and might be able to run them on it to create new hard drive versions. I can send you my address if you'll ship it.
