Need some new music
#272885 - 01/13/12 10:12 PM

I need some new music. What do ya'll listen to? Preferably new new music, like from the last 10 years. I find myself often stuck in a rut of the music I listened to in college in 93-97!

The only "new" albums I've been listening to are the newest Foo Fighters album, and the entire collection from Lemon Jelly. Everything else recent has sucked.

Is that necessarily bad?

No.....I guess not, but most of those bands aren't putting out anything new anymore!

The Black Keys are one of the few recent bands I listen to. I prefer their earlier stuff like "Magic Potion" and "Attack and Release". Their newer stuff is a little more pop-y and radio friendly, although it's still pretty good.

Currently on the "turntable" new [Re: Hizzout]

I'm open to most kinds of rock/folk/pop/country. Not big on "Pop Country" or much hip-hop.

Favorite bands/artists: U2, Wilco, Buffalo Tom, Ryan Adams, Avett Brothers, Ben Folds (although his current stuff sucks).

Some bands/artists I've just recently started listening to: Dawes, Brett Dennon, Andrew Bird, Decemberists, Mumford and Sons, Death Cab for Cutie/Postal Service, Vampire Weekend, Sufjan Stevens.

I keep hearing great things about them. I've liked what I've heard so far! Favorite tracks?

Hmmm... new [Re: jcroach]
#272927 - 01/14/12 05:41 AM

HELL YES. I am in a list making kind of mood!

What if we just list some of the songs that we've listened to recently, would that count?

John Murphy - in the house in a heartbeat (I fucking LOVE '28 Days Later')
The Lonely Island - Natalie's Rap
Guns N Roses - Coma
MC Frontalot - It Is Pitch Dark
Skid Row - Youth Gone Wild
Zola Jesus - Vessel (love her but she mumbles like Curt Cobain on Oxycotin)
Slayer - Hell Awaits
Prodigy - Breathe
10 Years - Wasteland
Bruno Mars - Grenade
Plastic Bertrand - Ça plane pour moi (I blame Craig Ferguson)
Tori Amos - Bells For Her
Lords of Acid - Scrood Bi U
Queensryche - the first few seconds of a song that I immediately skipped because I have to listen to all of "Operation Mindcrime" or none at all :P
Dummy - Roads
Korn - Faggot
Nine Inch Nails - What You Are
Weird Al - (got in a right shitty mood at work, played an Al marathon until it passed)
Fluke - Absurd
Bloodhound Gang - A Lap Dance Is So Much Better When The Stripper Is Crying
System of a Down - Atwa
The Cranberries - Ridiculous Thoughts
PJ Harvey - The Piano (warning: insta-sadness)
Pantera - Domination
Eminem - Till I Collapse
The Chemical Brothers - Galvanize
Metallica - The God That Failed
Johnny Cash - Satisfied Mind
Muse - Knights of Cydonia (epic driving song)
Mos Def - Quiet Dog Bite Hard
White Zombie - Blood, Milk and Sky
Type O Negative - Christian Woman
Prince - Peach
The Black Eyed Peas - Rock That Body (don't judge me)
Seether - Careless Whisper
Oingo Boingo - Dead Man's Party (I'm reading "Ready Player One")
Natalie Merchant - I'm Not Gonna Beg
Joan Osborne - Pensacola
Genesis - Mama (only Genesis song I have, m'kay?)
Daft Punk - Alive

(yes, a lot of this is older than ten years. my bad!)

Just Got To Be
Your Touch
I Got Mine
Lies
Next Girl

Pretty much in that order. "Just Got to Be" is easily in my top 5 of all time.
