Restarting MAME and have some performance questions.

I used to have a dual core AMD 5000 2.6 GHZ setup running in Win XP, and now am running with the following specs in Win 7 64 bit,
-PC: AMD Quad Core A8-3800 Accelerated Processor, 10GB DDR3 Ram, Radeon HD6550 onboard, 1 TB hard drive, Supermulti DVD Burner, Wireless Lan 802.11 b/g/n, Beats audio Studio Quality sound, Win 7 Home Premium
and I was wondering what I'd be able to play that I couldn't before? Would Soul Calibur, Tekken Tag, and similar games play ok?
I still have to harvest data off my dead system. I have a friend *who used to own a computer store where I interned at* who is better suited at data extraction than me who will help me transfer MAME from my old PC to the new one.
I'm just curious what I will be able to run and still won't be able to run. I'm not a ROM hoarder, I don't have everything in MAME nor have that interest.
As far as "new" games go, I like some fighting games, shooters, and racers. Tekken Tag and Soul Calibur are my two favorite 3D fighters.

FYI considering your favorite games you'd be much better served by Intel CPU solutions if you can manage it. They've been at a disadvantage on AMD since they were added.

Thanks, but this is what I own, it was a gift. Considering it was a gift and my former PC is toast, I'm just sticking with what I have.

Hello again.
Unless the hard drive in your old PC is broken, the term "data extraction" is a little overkill. All you need to do is connect the hard drive from your old PC to your new PC and you can continue running MAME as you were before, and unless you have changed the default paths to ROMs, samples, etc, you won't have to reconfigure anything. It's easy.

The partition was messed up and data has to be retrieved.
The primary hard drive *where MAME was stored* is a mess.
When I was trying to "fix" the computer, Windows went, and it took the hard drive with it.
The hard drive wasn't physically ruined, but the partition was wiped clean.

MAME-wise that's going to be within a few ticks of your old system. The A8-3800 Llano core is 2.4 GHz - the architectural improvements and the boost feature should allow it to match and sometimes beat the old system, but it's not gonna blow your socks off. If you were on the edge before (50+ FPS) that could well get you over the hump to 60, but if it was farther away it's just going to be pretty much a straight replacement.
ETA: I should note that you will see some improvement in 3D games simply from upgrading from XP to a 64 bit OS though. Make sure you run 64-bit MAME as well. And the on-board GPU should handle the "HLSL" feature nicely.

I can confirm that Soul Calibur and TTT (all system 12 games) work at 100% speed in MAME 0.144 64 bit.
My specs are :
Intel Core i7 930 2.8 GHz
6 GB DDR3 ram (3 x 2 GB)
ATI Radeon HD 5870 1GB GDDR5
OS : Windows 7 Ultimate 64 bit
Your processor is very similar(4 physical cores) to mine and I presume that You'll be fine with those games.
Also, You should know that all Naomi+Atomiswave games/roms from MAME set are fully playable in DEMUL, which is excellent emulator.
Regarding "data extracting", better (and cheaper, too) way to do that is simply to download again all roms that You wanna play - off course You actually own the actual machines like we all do.

With a decent cooler you can get that to 4.0GHz only adding +10C to the heat factor. You shouldn't even need to mess with voltages, but a few extra won't hurt.

I thought MAME took advantage of Quad Cores and that 4 cores would outperform 2 cores?
I know it would prefer Pentium over Athlon, but as I mentioned elsewhere this was a gift and I am thankful to have a PC.

How would a 3.3GHz i5 2400 (Win 7 x64) be in terms of MAME? Probably the most demanding game I'd run would be Tekken Tag.
I don't need overkill for my 90% browser usage and classic 80s/90s games, as proven by my trusty old 2.8GHz, single core, 32-bit Northwood Celeron, 40GB OEM hard drive, Radeon 9550 and 200W power supply.
