PinMAME sources are based on such an old version of MAME (last document core from MAME was 0.76, according to their documents), you cannot simply place their source in MAME and expect it to work. As far as Visual Pinball goes, I can say with near 100% certainty that MAME will not link to an external program such as this.
I would reckon that once Pinball is embraced as a viable emulation target by more than a DEV or 2, we'll start to see more activity and work will begin anew - while using PinMAME as a base. While much of the information in PinMAME might be accurate to actual machine specs, all that information will need to be re- visited/validated/asserted as it's entered to MAME. Also, since PinMAME was more geared to making games play regardless of method used, I would assume there is a great deal of work needed to truly understand things that might have been 'hacked' before.

That's great and all, but I get the feeling that he was asking so he could use the SVN tools to get MAME source updates quickly.
