Holy crap... Next time my extended family comes calling, I'm sending them to you.

I have one of those all-in-one repair kits, and out of that 90% of what I use is the Phillips screwdriver and that claw thing to fish screws out of the recesses of the case. More often than not when I make a housecall, I carry nothing more than my Leatherman and a copy of the Ultimate Boot CD.

Hell no! I cut out that crap years ago.

First I was open to doing computer service (free or pay) for pretty much anyone.
Then I limited it to just acquaintances, friends, and family.
Then it was friends and family.
Then it was close friends and family.
Then it was just extended family.
Then it was just immediate family, and that's not looking so good these days.

Lack of time, lack of interest, desire to avoid frustration...

Yeah, me too. But I felt like documenting the extended repair kit because often enough I'm buying some nifty tool... that it turns out I don't need, because I won't likely need it or already have one. The typical guy thing. I figure, if I have written down somewhere what I have, then I can figure out what I really do need, and avoid temptation when I don't.

Oh. I have one USB-IDE&SATA adapter:
    http://www.pacificgeek.com/product.asp?id=868382&C=197&S=1289

and then I have their earlier model which was just USB-IDE (3.5 & 2.5).
    http://www.amazon.com/USB-2-0-IDE-Cable-Adapter/dp/B000YQSKRU

I don't usually need both, although there's been times in the past where I've been rocking two.

I think the next one I'll get is something like this:
    http://www.newertech.com/products/usb3_universaldriveadap.php
To potentially get the USB 3.0 performance increase on USB 3.0 systems.

Or one of this companies' devices:
    http://www.wiebetech.com/
which have "Write-blocking" which is good for data forensics, pristine drive images, etc.

Or also maybe get an actual dock for once, and keep it at home. I've yet to own a hard drive dock.

The one you picked out is nice, but I usually don't need the one-touch backup and included drive imaging software since I use software I already own.
