Frontends
#271699 - 12/29/11 10:48 AM

Hi everyone

I have a couple of machines, one running Advancemame on dos and another machine with windows xp which boots straight into the Mamewah frontend. The first cab I built about 10 years ago and the second is about 4 years old now. Anyway I want to update the first cab and get rid of the dos based system as I have a couple of PCs given to me.

Main reason for my post is I am not really up to speed on the mame scene anymore and I was curious as to the frontend of choice. I want to be able to use solely Arcade controls and boot straight into the frontend. ie turn on the cab and the frontend is there ready to go, choose your game and play. i am able to do this in Mamewah but there maybe something newer and fancier.

Any suggestions greatly appreciated

If you have a PC that can handle it,I recommend Hyperspin. If not, then you cant go wrong with QMC2.Personally I use HS most of the time, you cant beat the eye candy, but when I want info on the games,I go with QMC2.TBH,im not quite sure if QMC2 can be set up the way you want.I know HS can

Emu Loader is not ment to be used with arcade cabinets... just so you know.
you need a keyboard, a mouse and a high res monitor to use this frontend.

Thanks guys

I might give Emu Loader a miss as I want to keep the cab simple for may computer illiterate mates.

I like having no mouse or keyboard, keeps everything uncluttered

EL have a very limited arcade controller support to scroll the list and start games.
that's about it.

This is another one you might try out.

http://www.mameui.info/

The only problem that I have is to keep it at full window screen. Reset the screen size after close it.

It can tell you what is not fully working by showing you the Donkey Kong screen on the right side. =)
