EMS Topgun II simple question

I just got this and I read that you have to mount the LCD's above and below your monitor, or on the sides.
My question is, is it OK if the LCD bars are about 2-3 inches from the top of the monitor? There's wood surrounding my monitor so I have to put it on top of the wood. Does this not matter, since when you calibrate you calibrate to the edges of the screen anyways?

nevermind I figured it out. It doesn't seem to matter.
Now for some reason the buttons don't work in Mame...... great.

if I remember right, the Topgun is an emulated mouse, so add the -mouse switch or change mame's ini where it says "mouse" to 1
