I tried playing this game... when I went to shoot the enemies, I didn't see any bullets/shots come out of my space ship, but I heard the noise and saw enemies getting blown up. After looking more closely, I could see my bullets but they are so extremely small that it's barely recognizable. I'm suprised that this game was made like that. Has anyone else noticed the extremely small shots that come out of your plane. It's almost invisible.

Looks fine on my end. I could easily see the shots. If you have hlsl enabled, you might want to try disabling it and see if it looks ok. If it does, then try re-enabling hlsl and play with the settings until you get it looking the way you want.

It's a vector game. On a vector monitor, it is probably bright as hell. You aren't playing on a vector monitor. Change the settings for beam width, etc.

I just got a SQ a few weeks ago. The backdrop was missing, so I made a new one.

Yeah, those shots in mame are hard to see. And the display comes across as a much darker blue than the arcade game. Oh and the sound samples are pretty weak. The real game has discrete logic for the sound effects, each one is shown with full schematics in the incredibly technical 99-page owner's manual. The survivor pick-up sound is much richer and rewarding, and the player's ship explosion is jarring and louder than anything else. I'm curious what "music.wav" is in the updated samples, I should check it out. The only thing I've never actually seen yet is the "Ghost Ship" which glows and is worth 2500 pts. Perhaps some music is played when it appears? If there are any questions I can help with, let them fly. SQ is a really fun game. The nuke option and the ability to detonate it yourself makes the game. So satisfying when you take out 4 or 5 ships with one explosion. The panel of buttons is a nice throwback in game control and the illusion of the action taking place suspended over a starfield is a unique visual.

From the picture you posted, it seems like the cabinet is shorter than the average cabinet. Is that so?

Also, if you don't mind me asking, how much did you pay for it?

No, it's just as big as any other game. Must be an optical illusion.

I paid $300 - machine fully working (had to clean soda goo out of buttons and it's missing the back door) and even got a spare tube that might be crisper/brighter. It's worth is about $600 due to scarcity and, well, it's a good game.
