Guys,
We know this is overdue. We know we should have done it years ago. I do apologise that it has taken this long. As we stated in this post on the KryoFlux forums that we would make the decision about what license to use after we finished KryoFlux write support (which took much longer than expected, but was recently completed) and now we have followed through.
The IPF library source code has now been released under a modified MAME license (just with "MAME" replaced, obviously). Other licenses may follow, we'll see how it goes.
See here for more info: http://forum.kryoflux.com/viewtopic.php?f=2&t=265
Note that this also includes a cycle exact, low level WD177x emulator that works at the signal (not command) level. This took quite some investigative work digging up the appropriate datasheets, and a huge number of hours by multiple people in testing, including many many hours spent verifying the behaviour of real hardware. It was very important to us, so we spent a long time on it. There is a lot of information in the SPS WIPs about it - we think it is pretty neat! I heard that Olivier recently improved the MESS one, but I thought I'd mention this in case it is useful.
Anyway, we hope this resolves this "outstanding issue", and makes the existing library of over 3600 titles truly worthy of preservation in your eyes, and we look forward to working with you MAME/MESS guys more closely in the future.
Thanks,
The Software Preservation Society http://www.softpres.org

I'm glad to hear it! Thanks, and I hope it leads to better software preservation as everyone is hoping.
