I don't see any difference. I think they are just changing version numbers with very little change.

They have "version number envy" - Google Chrome is at v14.0 and Chrome Developer/Chromium at v15.0, Opera is at v11, even Internet Explorer is at v9. It's probably a psychological/marketing thing. (Safari is at v5, but who gives a rip about Safari )

Maybe they should concentrate on making it work better instead of adding major revision numbers...

My Firefox updates since 5 have had nothing but slow downs for the browser. I don't have anything but the stock install with no plugins added at all.

I can't even find release notes. It looks like improved memory usage is the major improvement? > They have "version number envy" - Google Chrome is at v14.0 and Chrome > Developer/Chromium at v15.0, Opera is at v11, even Internet Explorer is at v9. That's some pretty weak sauce if it's true. Does anyone really look at IE and decide that it's better just because the version number is higher?

I think that was around when they went to Direct2D rendering. What kind of video card do you have? I'd bet a video card that's not up to snuff would make newer versions of Firefox perform worse than older ones.

Sounds like what happened with the XBox 360. People are saying the Playstation will use some new naming next time because 4 is bad luck in Japan or something.

Looks like it is 1-2% faster in the javascript area (ive been timing it). They are 2-5% on the year so far since v4.
I think the faster release schedule is kind of cool. I do not have a problem with it at all. We get the stuff pretty close to when it was done. Instead of waiting a year and a half for everything to be done. Plus most of the stuff has a decent cook time before being moved into production. MAME is basically at version 143 yet nobody really bitches about that...
The down side is it looks like they are doing less now. Even though they are doing about the same amount of work...
Plus I think they may have fixed one or two things http://www.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/7.0/releasenotes/buglist.html
http://www.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/7.0/releasenotes/
I only require one thing out of my version numbers. A bigger number than the last time. Then after that a changelog is nice.

Clear your history.
The browser got insanely slower for me since they changed the history file to use SQLite instead of whatever they used to use. I had my history for about a year, but after I cleared it out, the problems went away.

Huge difference. ABP is missing and youtube is shoving ads at me now.

ABP is working fine for me. Try to uninstall / re-install it.

I didn't lose abp, but noscript disappeared. I just downloaded it again and all is well.
Hmm... Noscript and adblock plus- conspiracy theories anyone?

I was on 6 yesterday and Youtube forced me to watch a 15 second ad before watching a random video last night.
It's not Firefox's fault.

It's funny because IE's had some actual changes between versions, and there's good reason for the thing to be at version 9 already, since the browser has evolved with every new OS Microsoft releases.
But Firefox? No reason. All it does is confuse people and break add-ons that still rely on the older "Works on up to version X.YZ" settings.

Yeah, the new version wasn't detected during the upgrade process-- only 2 of my addons were upgraded. I had to search for several of them, and ABP took 2 restarts before it was functional.
Damb, I'm hating this touchpad. no middle button.

My issue with updating Firefox is CookieSafe stops working. I need to wait a while, go to the developer site and download the latest test build because the one at Mozilla is outdated.
I also recommend BetterPrivacy add-on to get rid of .sol files (the new cookies).

Allow me to explain:
四 = よん or し (reading as yon or shi) = four
死 = し (reading as shi) = death
Just as there exist buildings without a thirteenth floor because is considered bad luck, same happens with the number four in Japan. Some hospitals there avoid to list 4th floor as such for the same reason.

It's not stupid, they know better than the people that use the browser, that's all!
Fuck, it's like they want me to stop using them.

They already stopped me months ago. They are now almost what they tried to be better than: Netscape Communicator.
Feature creep, bloatness, and change (especially the UI) for fuck's sake of simply changing something. And not listening that much to their "market" anymore.
That thing with the version numbers and constantly breaking addons was the last they played on me.
Using Opera now on mobile, laptop, and desktop / workstation. Re-enable displaying the full URL here too, and off you go. Snappy as hell, and no stupid release fever. No breaking of addons either (and: they can be dynamically loaded - no restart necessary).
Only thing missing for now is XMarks...
