a quick WTF robocop moment...
#263260 - 08/29/11 05:32 AM Attachment: robocop.vcd.jpg 82 KB (1 downloads)

clarence uses a video cd. this movie was made in 1987. cd's were around then, but the concept of putting video on them? was this a cutting edge implement, or some idea that just happened to be on the money. either way, i didn't think anything, then like 10 seconds after that scene, i was like WTF1987videoCD!

Laserdisc was around since the late 70's, and CDV was put out sometime in the late 80's. Nothing ground-breakingly original, but probably pretty obscure.

Video Cd was a new technology then But expensive. It was the bluray of it's day.If I remember correctly, the popularity of Vcd came out around 86.But it didn't hit the market until later.I could be wrong though.

I watched "Star Trek: The Motion Picture" on laserdisc back in 1981 at a friend's house, so I know they existed at least back that far. This was before I knew anyone with a VCR, Beta or VHS.

I remember CD Video in the late 80's. I remember seeing Bon Jovi and others in the store...

Yeah, Laserdisc is one of those technologies that seems weirdly ahead of its time. I remember watching one (maybe Star Wars?) at a friend's house circa 1984-1985, and I recall being aware even then that it wasn't brand new technology.

VCD was developed and released in 1993. CD-V was released in 1987 thought. They sound the same (videoCD vs. cd-video isn't that different) but they are different technologies. However CD-V was gold, while the disc in Robocop is silver. Nice gimmick tho, good spot Jop.
