I can't STAND it when I see someone smack a mosquito that's biting them. I always imagine the contents of their belly being explosively injected into the person as if they were a tiny, blood-vomit filled syringe...
Flick, not smash.

Looking at your attachment filename...
Do you still use that Samsung camera? ![](//www.mameworld.info/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/thinking.gif)
I've got the same kind (I'm pretty sure). I tried to take a close up pic of some strange bug... It took me a while to figure out that I had to lightly press the shutter(?) button till it found the right target. Even then the focus wasn't as good as what I was wanting.

Before the mosquito gets killed, it already noticed the palm and is ready to fly away. Plus, unless the proboscis (i had to look that in Wikipedia) is almost vertical is very likely to break or not pierce again when smaked. Also its abdomen is very fragile and very likely to break apart before returning anything trough such narrowed space. And even if it does, that's why we have immune systems isn't it? There's nothing in the mosquito that it's already inside when it bit.
A flick only reduces the chances to kill the mosquito and annoy you or someone else again. So don't fear and smack it with all your will. A portable vacuum cleaner helps too if you hate to wait for the annoying brat to stand still.
EDIT: I didn't know female mosquitos are the only ones feeding from blood, so technically speaking is a "she".

That was taken from my HTC Hero.

Does your camera have a Macro(mountain)--Micro(flower) setting? Try playing with that for close-ups. Yes, still lightly press the shutter button so the camera auto-focuses.

There's a button with a flower that toggles those settings, but I learned about that before.
I think I even tried a high resolution shot, but not as close. That way I could blow up a section of it later... I haven't really looked at those pics since.
