How could it possibly be a prequel? Do the put the thing back in the ice at the end of the movie? Unless maybe this is supposed to be what happened at the Norwegian camp. Regardless, you're right, it's pretty much the same movie. "MacReady with tits and bad CGI" Brilliant premise for a remake.
Did anyone else get a trailer for a Fright Night remake with McLovin, as an ad before the video? Hollywood is completely out of ideas.
I don't recall every detail, something about one of them surviving who I think died at or right before the original starts, and could be a second creature. Anyway it's the most pointless film since they remade Death at a Funeral.
Seriously, just get a half-decent lookalike to do everything, no collage. Or maybe do the CGI trick from Terminator: Salvation, using Arnie's face over Roland Kickinger's body.
And perhaps a decent sequel to The Crow wouldn't be bad.
And perhaps a reboot to Alien 3... those motherfrakkers at Fox totally screwed up the story for Newt and Hicks.
This is supposed to be the story of the Norweigns/Sweeds finding the thing initially before Kurt Russel and crew discovered the whole camp in shambles.
I don't know if I will see it or not. There were a LOT of moments in the 80's 'Thing' that scared the crap out of me as a child. In my college days, we used to have a drinking game with this movie. Don't remember all of the details about the game, but something to do with every time someone used a fire extinguisher, we all had to chug it!
