Supermodel News - 1st August
#261276 - 08/02/11 02:49 PM

A lot of people have been asking me when the next version of Supermodel will be released. The answer is: when it's ready. I'd like to get it out before the end of the month so I can start working on dynamic recompiling CPU cores but I can't guarantee anything given my hectic schedule. There are still some sound bugs to resolve and lots of little loose ends to tie up here and there before a release can be made.

In other news, I got Ski Champ to boot today. Unfortunately, it suffers from the same issues that plague Harley Davidson and The Ocean Hunter, so it's not really playable and I haven't hooked up controls. Nevertheless, it's a small step forward for compatibility!

Yes! Ski Champ is supported!

Bart, will Sega Bass Fishing be emulated in Supermodel? Or are you going to ditch that one due to Sega still doing production for that game (releasing it on Xbox 360 as part of the "Dreamcast Collection")?

Sega Bass Fishing boots and the attract mode runs but I haven't been able to coin up and start a game. From here until a release is made, there probably won't be much focus on compatibility. I'd like to get a version with sound out, followed by a version that performs significantly better, before making more games playable.

Dreamcast collection already out on PC. Sega Bass Fishing with proper widescreen support, higher resolution textures operates well. And by the way, there is an old PC port already here of Sega Bass fishing, both is an option if you want to play it.

It would appear so. Maybe I exceeded my host's bandwidth limit. The site is generously being hosted for free by drx, who used to run a 'Sonic the Hedgehog' hacking web site.

Nice! Is Ski Champ crashing because of large display lists like Harley-Davidson and The Ocean Hunter?

I hate bugging people and I'm trying not to bug people, but do you think those problems with the large display lists can be fixed easily, or are they very hard to fix? You did say that you have to get another version to release or two to get more games playable.

Great news Bart

Hopefully someone donates a Boat Race GP board soon. I like that Model 2 game, Wave Runner. If it is anything like that then it would be good.

This problem cannot be fixed easily and will require some outside the box thinking.

Bart you are doing a SUPERB job. Do not I repeat do NOT succumb to pressure from all these people bugging you about a release date! Let them WAIT however long it takes! Take your time buddy. I'd much rather see polished product than an unpolished one. I personally am hoping you will not release it until NIK is able to iron out the FFB issues and get proper FFB working in both Scud Race and Daytona 2.

So just continue doing your thing bro. We patiently continue to wait

The lastest update from Sega Model 2 by Elsemi comes 1 year and 3 months later, so we can wait if necessary 50 years to perform that emulator.

One more thing...

Brilliant work

eh, FFB would just be the icing on an already awesome cake.
I wouldn't consider it a necessity for a release. The next release doesn't have to encompass absolutely everything.
I'll be overjoyed to have analogue controls and maybe sound (even if imperfect).

Very grateful to Bart and everyone who is contributing.

Rewriting the CPU cores will take more time. It's a _lot_ more code but the objectives are more clear because dynarecs are a solved problem. It's just a matter of buckling down and putting in the hours (of which I don't have too many these days).

so the way to do it is clear , the only matter its the lack of time... thats great
also this results are good and as other users said we have waited seven years, we can wait a little more

BTW, you will be happy to know that vs215 is running. I don't know about the speed (probably nothing has changed), but now, both the Step 1.5 and 2.0 versions of VS2 are running.

Out of curiosity, why does Ski Champ looks more like a Model 2 game, while Daytona 2 and Super GT look so much better?
