It's a home system from the early 90's so it will be RCA. I can send you a universe bios for it that lets it play MVS (arcade version) carts (same games at a fraction of the cost). That is if it's not soldered. It shouldn't be but I've never opened up a home one (AES).

The BIOS won't let it play MVS carts, it plays the AES carts in MVS mode. The MVS carts have a different connection to prevent arcade ops from buying the cheaper(at the time) home carts.

Honestly the need for Scanlines elude me. I love nice sharp pictures on my 16:10 screen. I don't see why making the games that play on it argubale worse qaulity.

That and the carts wouldn't fit. The MVS carts are bigger and have a bigger cart pinout. The only "MVS" stuffit does is make the ROMs think it's an MVS thus playing the full arcade game.

To play MVS carts would need a converter.

Oh I guess I misread that. Well I wouldn't buy it at all then. AES carts are a total ripoff. You're better off getting an MVS motherboard that has a connector for those controllers and building a supergun than paying collector prices for NG games.

So you haven't looked and seen that the properly done scanlines make the games that were made for display on monitors with scanlines actually look sharper than they do otherwise?

I'm sorry what? LCDs are damn sharp, all this scanline stuff just simulates a phospher CRT, which TBH I couldn't care about. If you like it fine, but it's just pointless to me.

It's more like anti-aliasing of a sort. The spaces created by the scanlines break up the jagged edges of a low resolution image and make them appear smoother.

I guess it's really a matter of taste, but the graphics in games from the classic era were designed with the limitations of a CRT in mind. If you're used to seeing them that way, the ultra sharp image of a modern screen makes them look really blocky or chunky.

Not smooth and round, like in Mine Craft.

Here's an MVS JAMMA board with AES controller inputs:
http://cgi.ebay.com/NEO-GEO-1-SLOT-JAMMA...=item2312794ff7
I can't tell from the photo if it has a socketed BIOS.
I have an older version of that board, it looks identical except the part that is metal is made of plastic on mine. And it has a socketed BIOS. IIRC mine is an MV1-T.
