Pretty impossible to tell. It was successful but there's no way to say how much of it was due to using that song. It's a problem with a lot of advertising stuff.

You get the impression that ad people are bullshitting their clients most of the time as much as they are bullshitting the consumers. The amount of money they convince companies to spend on stupid, useless ads is insane.

Sometimes. Microsoft has a reputation of taking advertising into their own hands. All that Windows 7 home party crap was their own idea from what I heard, in heiss. I wouldn't be in the least bit surprised to find a story tomorrow about Balmer getting coked up and coming up with the idea to pay the Stones 3 million to use the song for this.

The Ghandi approach really works. Most are just too addicted to be able to find out.

I wonder why the Rolling Stones didn't pay MS to use the song. It probably sold many records for them.

The Stones (lawyers) are notorious about protecting their old songs and probably wouldn't sell it. I guess they have to be since they haven't been able to write a good song since the 70's.

No mention, as well of the VERY abrupt fade out they had to make right before the 'grown man cry' line - you'd think for that money they could have found an issue free track!

Not many ads manage to use a song that doesn't say the wrong thing somewhere if they let it play.
