New User: Question On MAMEUI32 & PC Memory Usage

Hi. I just downloaded the most recent version of MAMEUI32, after not using the MAME program for a couple years. When I ran the program and placed all the ROMS that I had in the folder, I noticed that it moved my PC memory usage from 52% to 87%! Is this normal for MAME to use this much memory? I would really appreciate any input and help. Thanks!

From 52% to 87% of what? How much RAM do you have? For me MAMEUI32 uses about 85,000 KB of memory with just the GUI open.

I have 2 GB of RAM. Before I started MAMEUI32, my RAM usage was 52% and while it was running, it went to 87% RAM usage. I was surprised and didn't think it would use that much. I will have to go to 4GB if this is normal.

What OS do you have? How much memory is shown being used in task manager?

I am using Windows 7 Home Premium 32-bit. In the task manager, MAME is using 1,117,460 kb! I have never had a program even use close to this much memory. Any suggestions? I went back and tried MAME32, that I downloaded back in 2008 and it uses very little memory. Thanks again.

use official MAME and either learn how to use command line or pair it up with a frontend like GameEX, IV play, EmuLoader, etc.
If you can be bothered to download the Artwork from AntoPISA site here is some shots of GameEX in action.

Sorry about that. I thought maybe the forums would automatically resize it.
And yes, get yourself a big monitor unless you're going for an Arcade one, which I'm saving for at the moment

I am using version 0.142. Is this the most recent version or is there a newer one? If there is, do you know where I would get it? Thanks for your help, I really appreciate it!

You do need a bigger display.
That image looks great on my 60" monitor/projector.
So does dig dug....
