Does my car smell like donuts?

I can't understand it... I owned a bright red 1998 Pontiac Grand Prix for 7 years, not a hot rod but a reasonably conspicuous car. In that time, I never once got pulled over.
Now I own a gray 2009 Mazda 3 hatch, about as nondescript as they come. As of today, I've owned it about 14 months and I've already been pulled over 3 times. This time, a group of motorcycle cops were hanging out at the side of the road, and one of them managed to spot my expired inspection sticker (oops...) as I passed at probably 30mph.
I don't get it, I don't drive any differently than I used to. Why is my little Mazda such a tempting target?

Relatively cheap car that's a common subject of illegal ricing up? You know, removing emission controls and safety gear.

Don't know. I used to have a blue Firebird Formula 350 and the only attention it got from cops was the three times it got stolen and I had to go down to the station to report it.
Funny thing is, it was never stolen while I lived in the projects in Jamaica Plain. Soon after I moved to South Boston, in what I thought was a better neighborhood, the stealing began.
I switched to a Ford Escort after that. ![](//www.mameworld.info/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/ohyeah.gif)
I've never gotten stopped for an expired sticker. What was the damage for that?

I can see how an F-body like that would be popular in Southie. > I've never gotten stopped for an expired sticker. What was the damage for that?
$50, but the real kicker is that it's a surchargable offense. The cop told me to get the inspection and appeal the ticket and they usually throw it out. I hope so, I already blew my free pass when I got nailed for speeding in the tunnel a few months ago. (I was going to try to convince that cop I was afraid of falling ceiling tiles, but I didn't think he'd buy it. )

Yep on the ricer target. That was my first guess too.

I guess, maybe. My car looks and sounds (and is) utterly bone stock, though. You can typically hear a ricer about 3 miles off.

Harhar did anything happen there again after 2006? Use better concrete next time!

Mazda 3s are an uncommonly good platform though. They're known to law enforcement.
