mj4simai won't load - anyone else?
#257261 - 06/13/11 08:58 PM

Hello MAME fans.

When loading mj4simai (Wakakusamonogatari Mahjong Yonshimai) in MAMEUI32 0.142u5, it hangs at a black screen right after MAME's loading screen. I have to stop the MAME process in Task Manager. Happening to anyone else?

This also happens in the same version of MAME Plus!, but I know that's official. I figured the more info I can provide the more help it might be.

Thanks

Unable to confirm on my 0.142u5 command-line build (32-bit, command-line, Windows XP). Try the command-line build that is available HERE and see if you can still duplicate it.

Tafoid,

I just downloaded the build from the link that you gave me and I got the same error. Had to end MAME through the Task Manager.

Thanks.

I guess the next step would be finding out your computer stats, OS? Have your tried to install command-line MAME in a new folder to see if there is not a configuration issue?

Can anyone else duplicate this?

I'm on Windows Vista Ultimate, 2GB memory, Core 2 2.16 GHz with an ATI video card. It's a Dell Inspiron laptop.

I did in fact install command-line MAME in an entirely separate folder and the hang still happened.

I used to play the game in question lots awhile back without performance issues on my PC. Apparently, this game doesn't generate NVRAM, because I looked to see if I could delete the NVRAM and start over. I don't know what the deal is, but thanks for helping me look into it.

I found another bug in another mahjong game which I will submit to MAMETesters once I pass Viewer status.

Thanks for all of your help. Hopefully we can get to the bottom of this, but it sounds like it's probably my computer and not MAME.

EDIT --> I got it to boot up twice on straight MAMEUI32 from John IV's site, but the third time it hung. Was able to play normally when it actually loaded.

Boots just fine (although takes about 30 seconds) and I am unable to replicate the issue using self compiled Mame64 0.142u5 win 7 x64 O/S

Same here, self compiled MAME64 0.142u5 build and Windows 7 x64 OS. Takes a bit to load but eventually boots without problems. The only form the game (or any other) crashes for me in MAME is when I enable HLSL and full screen, switch applications with Win key + tab (probably alt+tab too) and then return to MAME after. MSI R5450 card could be part of the blame though.

Strange. It'll get past the loading screen here very quickly and then sit at blanksville. It'll start for me once every couple of tries (after closing MAME through the Task Manager). Can you guys try this if you haven't?

Works on my self-compiled 32-bit build.
