DU Update: Felix the Cart...& Friends
#257236 - 06/13/11 06:18 PM

We got 14 undumped Print Club carts in a bulk buy. One of them is with a Felix the Cat theme.

We got the original Japanese version of Tekken 3 (TET1/VER.A) and discovered that it uses different "FL" roms than other sets and we figured out that the glitch in other "A" sets in MAME was caused by using incorrect FL roms and this dump fixes the glitch in them (bug ID 00765 I think).

We got a prototype cart of King of Monsters.

Also dumped an alt. revision of SF2CE Accelerator. I'm still working on a new way to send donations. It should be complete in a few days. Remember not to send money via Paypal for the remainder of the year.

Cool pickups. I thought there was only one or two Print clubs. How is the camera connected to the STV board anyway?

I hope they can be made to use webcams with MAME, that would be super cool, even if the printouts just make a png.

Wow a câmera never see it before
Or for example activate câmera on Mame only for Print Club and use F12 or click on the mouse button for a example print

Could be, especially to the hardcore NeoGeo fans, unless it turns out to not have any discernible differences.

Maybe this is the version of the game that doesn't suck ass.

And I say that as a NeoGeo fan.

I'm curious about the contents of that Felix cart. I realize the game won't work at all for a while, if ever.

Nice addition for The King of Monster prototype !!! And Smitdogg, about the King of Fighters '97 plus 2003 Boot...Not yet added to MAME?

And a side note DsNo has redumped C'roms for Quiz Daisousa Sen - The Last Count Down (Korea) which seems to be bad dumped.

Thanks to him for the snaps and redump !!!

best regards,
JacKc.

I haven't dumped that boot cart yet. It's near impossible to get bootlegs added these days and it would be a whore to dump so the motivation isn't there.

i could understand...and "dump" already available on others derivated MAME builds (but not sure sure if it matches your boot)

For the dev who's in charge of neodrvr.c, some infos about this set.

According to MVSGOTWALLS MVS scans :

Code:

// Quiz Daisousa Sen - The Last Count Down (Korea)

static struct BurnRomInfo quizdaiskRomDesc[] = {
{ "123-p1.p1", 0x100000, 0xa6f35eae, 1 | BRF_ESS | BRF_PRG }, // 0 68K code

{ "123-s1.s1", 0x020000, 0x53de938a, 2 | BRF_GRA }, // 1 Text layer tiles

{ "123-c1.c1", 0x100000, 0xe579a606, 3 | BRF_GRA }, // 2 Sprite data
{ "123-c2.c2", 0x100000, 0xe182c837, 3 | BRF_GRA }, // 3

{ "123-m1.m1", 0x020000, 0xd67f53f9, 4 | BRF_ESS | BRF_PRG }, // 4 Z80 code

{ "123-v1.v1", 0x100000, 0xa53e5bd3, 5 | BRF_SND }, // 5 Sound data

That explains the lack of new NeoGeo bootlegs in MAME these past few versions.

That sucks. These bootlegs are crap, but I'd still love to take a look at 'em.

But the fact i'm not the dumper and by the past i've submitted some stuff via some members here to MAME but not correctly credited, i don't want to make this error again...So it's up to the dumper to decide if he wants to submitt it or not :

It was a known issue. The problem is I don't have access to that board now to dump those ROMs. It was dumped a long time ago way before MAME emulated S12..... back in the Zinc days.
There's also a Tekken Tag version with the same issue (need FL ROMs dumped) but again I don't have access to that PCB now.

With a bit of modification it should be possible via mame's artwork system. Most webcams/webcam software have a function that allows the camera image to save to a jpg/gif every little bit (usually around 10-15 fps) The games would need an artwork layer that uses an image and an open (unzipped) artwork file. Either the individual driver would have to be modified or the artwork system itself so that the image used in the artwork file gets reloaded constantly. You setup your webcam to save to the artwork folder and you are good to go!

Like you said, F12 would take care of any printouts and if you REALLY wanted to print the image in-game some middleware software could be written to print the saved image when a certain keypress is detected... no need to add direct printing support to mame.

It's not that simple though. The game checks for other pieces of hardware like printer/camera etc. hence the 'attendant error'. Currently everything regarding STV bolt-on hardware is totally unknown. There might even be another I/O board for those things containing MCU or other required IC's. It's very wishful thinking to expect these games to run in MAME in any kind of playable state without at least knowing how they are connected and what other hardware is involved. Sure it might be possible but there are probably easier fish to fry and games that provide more interesting interaction and gameplay rather than a shitty picture-creating app that prints out an el-cheapo sticker at the end ;-)

Yeah, but given all of these carts probably have the same program the opportunity to get 16+ (counting existing dumps) games running all at once is pretty attractive. Especially with Felix the Cat involved ;-)

This may sound like doing business with a kidnapper. :P
That King of the Monsters proto, maybe you could sell that at a low price to one of the fanatic collectors, provided that they release a specific NeoGeo romdump they're hoarding. (or even better, lend it to you so you're sure the dump is good). For example the neogeoprotos.com guy that claims to have Last Odyssey: http://www.neogeoprotos.com/games/last_odyssey.htm

I'm sorry this happened. It boiled down to two issues...
First, I was submitting the patch for Mr. Haywood in good faith. He did not want credit nor gave me any names to attribute the new clone dump to. I did a number of submissions from his work that day (2/24) and none of them were ones which credit was specifically asked for by him. Secondly, even though my svn commit (r11674 if you are playing at home) said clearly "no whatsnew", my name was tacked on there I suspect in an auto-magic fashion when creating the 0.141u3 release's whatsnew.txt because I had committed it.

In short, if there was an error it should have been noticed sooner by those who dumped it or by their representatives. I did not notice it nor had I known it was a huge issue - so things didn't change before 0.142 went to press (over a month later). If problems of credit are showing in U releases, please let someone know so that the next main release can show the proper credit - leaving people happier in the process.

If that guys still has that cart, tell him to redump the v1 also - look at the chip - it´s 16 mbit not 8 mbit.

I would like to take a look at those new c's ...

Hi Tafoid,

Thanks for the explanations...It seems it was a total unfotunate oversight and due to some combination of circumstances.

next time i need to be more reactive.

EDIT 15/06/2011

DsNO has dumped The King Of Fighters '97 (Korea, MVS)

according to him, Korean MVS set is identical to Japanese MVS set except for the M1.

Code:

// The King of Fighters '97 (Korea)

static struct BurnRomInfo kof97kRomDesc[] = {
{ "232-p1.p1", 0x100000, 0x7db81ad9, 1 | BRF_ESS | BRF_PRG }, // 0 68K code

About others Korean MVS sets, according to DsNo :

Quote:

Breakers = Japan Set (Only different label)
The King of Fighters '96 = Japan Set (Only different label)
The King of Fighters '97 = Different m1 (Japan set)
Shock Troopers = Japan Set (Only different label)
Stakes Winner = Japan Set (Only different label)
Waku Waku 7 = Japan Set (Only different label)

Which chips? Sometimes certain devs neglect to keep track of who donated what, and hence its difficult to properly credit.

To reiterate what Tafoid said, if there's some problem with credits, say something right away and we'll have it fixed in time for the next full release. In spite of attempts to have Grant Imahara build a robotic MAMEdev army, we're all humans and mistakes happen.

My policy is different. Assuming it was something you sent to me, I thanked you on my web site when the item arrived. You did nothing directly involving real work and last time I checked the whatsnew didn't include credits for posting items in the mail. If you added MAME code or dumped ROMs or did some real work let us know and you'll be credited. It had always been that way up until the others started crediting every Tom Dick and Harry who donated $0.02c towards an item. I don't believe in that and I think it's wrong to pollute the whatsnew with random people who did no real MAME development work.
You may not be happy about that and not send anything else but no one will care one way or the other. You should be doing things for MAME because you care about preservation of these old games not because you want credit in the whatsnew, especially when you were already thanked on my page and that info is now spread out across 1000000 emulation news sites.

A Chinese spambot posted reconstituted bits of Augusto as an attempt to blend in yesterday. It was the most hilarious shit ever, I'm sorry I didn't save it before Richard nuked the account.
