That Seagate HDD has terrible reviews. Almost 1/4 give it one egg. I think this is the same one that was on sale yesterday at Amazon. Reviews were just as bad there too.

You're building this system to run HLSL, what video card(s) are you considering? That's the critical ingredient.

I am aware. I'm just flabbergasted that anyone would build a system specifically for HLSL without an actual video card. On-board anything, be it ATI or Nvidia, isn't going to shine in that application, to put things mildly.

I currently have an Nvidia Geforce GT 525 Mobile in my XPS15 laptop and I run every 2d games 100% with 0 frameskip.
the non-mobile version gt 520 sells for $59,99 on amazon

I was looking at those for my (currently hypothetical) new MAME machine. If they're powerful enough, it seems like a good deal.

I was thinking that might be the case. I haven't really thought much further into it. u5 seems to have things optimized, and I get much better performance with my geforce 6800.
