Riddle me this one

I finally upgraded to Windows 7 x64 on my MAME machine, mainly to take advantage of the increased performance. However, I ran into something unexpected. The first thing I did was to compare 0.142 regular vs. x64 and saw a 22% increase in game speed on mace. Others have seen 25% on similar comparisons, but I figured this was close enough, as everyone's systems might react differently. I normally play that game with 0.127 because it would run ~8% faster on 32bit MAME. Therefore, my next test was to download 0.127 x64 and compare it to x86. This time, x64 is only 18% faster than x86.
Does anyone know why the x64 speed increase does not scale on 0.127 as well as it does on 0.142?

Was the MIPS dynarec supported on 64bit at that time? Can't remember myself

This is a "it would take more work to answer than it's worth, shut up, grab a beer, and enjoy the improvement in 0.142" kind of moment

I already had the beers last night while doing all of that and I'm happy with the improvement  .
However, I'm asking out of curiosity and figured someone might have a quick answer.
