Atomiswave : Naomi
#255467 - 05/24/11 10:09 PM

Can anyone here tell me the differences between these two systems ?
Why they have different source driver in MAME ?
From what I see and read about it(mainly my experience is from DEMUL) they look completely the same, except the logo on starting screen.

Naomi (by Sega) was first and used a GD-ROM or roms. Atomiswave was designed based on Naomi (by Sammy) which used interchangeable carts (rom only). I'm sure there are other minor differences as well, but they are different systems made by different companies, even if they are mostly alike.

Sorry, I overlooked that they are in the same driver, but different bios ; Obviously they "share" the same hardware and one last thing :
Why bios.ic23_l is marked as "bad dump" ? I am asking this because all games works just fine despite that fact.

Naomi has substantially more memory (including VRAM) than the stock Dreamcast. Atomiswave has exactly the same specs as the home Dreamcast and was intended as a low-end low-cost solution.

ROM_LOAD16_WORD_SWAP_BIOS( 0, "bios.ic23_l", 0x000000, 0x010000, BAD_DUMP CRC(e5693ce3) SHA1(1bde3ed87af64b0f675ebd47f12a53e1fc5709c1) ) /* Might be bad.. especially. bytes 0x0000, 0x6000, 0x8000 which gave different reads */ \

The ROM has a non-standard pinout and I dumped it but it was a fluke. I still have no idea how it came out mostly ok
To fix it I'd need another Atomiswave mobo and some time to figure out what's going on there. Probably not going to happen so this is as good as it gets.
