Anybody know of a good proxy service that commercial web site filters won't block?
#254835 - 05/18/11 03:16 AM

At work over the weekend my employer instead a new web site filtering system and now I can't get here. (Bastards already took away my streaming radio and I can't listen to the radio because of terrible reception and lack of a window cube. It seems the windows are coated with something to block cell phone reception.) I can get to the main page via the ip address, but after that everything goes down with a big flush. Anybody know of a good free proxy service I can use? I tried the updating my hosts file but to no avail. Also I'm running Internet Explorer 8. (Mandated by IS because not all 3rd party apps run under Internet Explorer 9.)

I'd recommend http://www.monster.com. It sounds like you work in a Chinese electronics factory.

I cannot speak highly enough of these people:

http://portal.unblock-us.com/

The limitation is that it only works for select services they support. However for these it is the absolute best solution I have found. I'm watching netflix, hulu, vudu and streaming Pandora from Europe while not having any slowdowns on any of my other surfing.

And I can still log into IP restricted FTPs etc

Fantastic service!

Cheers

KC

A long time ago, I installed httpbridge on my java-enabled webserver...

http://httpbridge.sourceforge.net/

...it wasn't great, but it did the job for most normal browsing. It didn't handle cookies or sessions too well, so logging in wasn't really possible most of the time.

Basically, it allowed me to view most sites that were blocked at work. Note that it uses a lot of bandwidth because it downloads everything locally (to your webserver).
