Windows XP 32 bit and MAME

I noticed that games like Mortal Kombat 4 and Radical Bikers, especially the former, are slow on MAME in Windows XP environment, while in Ubuntu in 64-bit version they run much smoother. I do not remember them to be so slow in XP though I havent tested them for months.
Even with older versions the same problem appears.
Does it have to do with 32-bit MAME or my system? I use an i3 560 at 3.3 Ghz so it should be enough.
in Mortal Kombat 4 the speed difference is 40 % between 32 and 64 bit. In XP it so slow that it is unplayable (60 % speed mostly).
Or do I have to assign cpu threads for those specific games?

That's a 64-bit thing.
MAME has optimizations that take advantage of a 64-bit OS. If you were to compare Ubuntu 64-bit to Windows 7 64-bit, you'd see they're roughly the same.

thanks for the clarification. I had tested MAME on Windows 7 64-bit too and gameplay was smooth on those games. It seems I confused Windows 7 MAME64 with XP MAME32 and had a false impression.
So I guess performance would be around the same fps in Vista and Windows 7 in 32-bit and also running MAME32 in Windows 7 64-bit.

basically, you will get best performance when using MAME 64-bit binaray with 64-bit OS.
