Wish there was a Tapatalk plugin for UBB so I could ask Twisty to install it. Makes life so much easier for keeping track of the forums I do monitor that use it.

Looking forward, maybe it's time for a change?

Just my 2 cents. I am sure most of the people on this forum have one or more of those devices?

Forum Runner is better and the server-side app is free:

We use both forumrunner and tapatalk for aussiearcade. Forum Runner is better. Unfortunately neither support these forums

Yeah, I think we went through this a year ago or so...our gear is too old.

I'm still keen on setting up a mirror forum on some open platform as a test platform, but the transition will be ROUGH.

The transition problems are usually caused by excessive mods or customisations.

I've ported a number of forum databases and as long as the bridges or scripts are decent you can usually get by. The really tedious part would possibly be setting up all your preferences etc to closely match your old forum.

I always (of course) tested porting before official cut over and go live. Thats being said I've never ported a site of this size

You've covered pretty much everything. About all I can say to the state of our current boards is that Twisty was a code-hungry animal, and I'm not sure he kept a list...

Honestly, maybe it's time to just take a step back and assess the existing state of things. Not going to tell you guys what to do here, but I'm pretty sure an assessment wouldn't hurt-- the old code running here can't be left as-is forever for obvious security reasons.

It might even hit the point where a clean-break transition is REQUIRED, losing a lot of existing history. Better to have some idea of how to save what you have before you're forced to lose it.

If it's going to take donations for the time and effort, and for the cost of the software, I'm pretty sure the community will step forward to do so. I'd be first in line, though I don't have a lot to offer therein.

But that could be said about the next software we move to, and the software after that.

Right now we get less hassle than any other message board I've ever seen because of the tweaks twisty has done. Absolutely no problems whatsoever aside from people wanting mobile device hookups.

Roc already took more than enough donations to pay for a new board software. I see no point in taking more away from more important issues (dumping) unless it's for hosting fees, which should also already be covered for a few more months at least.

I'm not a big fan of UBB and would gladly play the license fee for Vbulletin and associated plugins should the powers at be want to upgrade to something more 2000 .

Posted after Smittdog. I'll go put that money for DU now.

Thanks, but about forum software changing, if we went to Vbulletin or whatever else, half the people might like it more and half the people might like the old software more, so the end result is a waste of time. Security is not an issue, though some dick will probably read this and set out to prove me wrong. But if I hadn't said anything...

Maybe it's the IBTK, but I've never been able to figure out how to read all unreadposts since last login. If I could do that, I'd be a happy duck.

I think it might depend on how you are reading them. Are you in flat or threaded mode? For me I use threaded and everything I've clicked on, the subject goes to a different color.

For changes between logging ins, threads get highlighted if they were added to since your last login. I don't find it that useful in comparison.

Ahh. Perfect. I've switched to threaded mode, and it's much easier to see what's been read
