Are there alternative MAME for Windows?

Hi!
Since MAMEUI v0.142 is buggy and has very slow startups and exits, I wonder if there are any alternatives that do not have these problems. Do they exist?
Thank you in advance.

you can simply use command line MAME with one of the many frontends available (e.g. Emuloader or QMC2)

Or upgrade to MameUI .142.1, the issue was fixed.

Use MAME (which you can download from http://www.mamedev.org) and then get a frontend for MAME, there are many.

Uh, it still takes a long time to start up and shutdown even on my i7 machine with updated 32-bit Windows XP Pro. SP3, 2.5 GB of RAM, SATA HDDs, etc. Also, it seems to corrupt my settings if I exit and start too fast without letting mameui.exe process finish.

Wow, that's a lot! Um, which one is the best like MAMEUI for my updated, old Windows XP Pro. SP3 machine with 2.5 GB of RAM?

For the most similarity to MAMEUI, try MAME+ GUI 1.5.0, although it hasn't been updated in a year (as far as I know) and thus may have issues or not support some new command-line features that MAME has. http://mameicons.free.fr/mame32p/download/mamepgui-1.5.0.win-20100305.zip
But you should try out some of the others sometime, they all have their fans.

Ah thanks. I don't I will have to worry about new features? I just set display to windowed, use addons (e.g., decorations), etc.

Yeah, I doubt you should be concerned.
But just FYI: when frontends stop being updated, generally speaking, they stop being able to control any new command-line switches (or if their behavior has changed) in MAME.

By the way, I noticed that wiki I linked to leaves out some good ones, too, like EmuLoader and QMC2.

Hi John.
http://sourceforge.net/projects/mameplus/
/EDIT
hmm nope doesn't look like there's any source code there..unless you have to be logged in to see it.

Never mind, I did not realize that it's being distributed with MAME Plus these days.
http://sourceforge.net/projects/mameplus/
Newer version of MAME+GUI (1.5.1) is included, compiled 4/12/2011.
/EDIT
As for sourcecode... I dunno? Old source is here: http://mameicons.free.fr/mame32p/download/mamepgui-1.5.0.src-20100305.zip
/EDIT AGAIN
Damn you Sune...
/EDIT ANOTHER TIME
SVN is here: http://mameplus.svn.sourceforge.net/viewvc/mameplus/trunk/
However, they do not seem to be doing source releases on SourceForge. I've just PM'd Emuman about this - for the GUI frontend it doesn't matter so much, but for their actual mameplus binaries, I'm not sure that providing public read-only SVN access is the same as doing source releases
It's probably okay, but I'd rather the question be settled.

Well, they haven't said specifically on that page, but ArcadeControls.com specialized in helping people build cabinets that you can install a PC in with MAME loaded, ie. a "MAME cabinet". My guess is that their main motivation in the creation of that list is to list all the frontends that can be operated without a mouse or keyboard.

Emu Loader
P.S.: somehow, the forum doesn't allow me to post the link to QMC2...

M+GUI source is not there, but MAMEMPlus one is there, just a bit hard to find:
Develop > What's happening? > Click on the revision number
now on the top of the page, if you click on the second mameplus link of the bar
"SourceForge.net > Find Software > mameplus > SCM Repositories > mameplus "
you get to the root of the svn repository and you can browse both mamep and mamepgui sources (not the M+GUI, though)
