The most pointless use of tax dollars I've ever witnessed

4 IDOT (Illinois Department Of Transportation) employees, in 2 separate trucks, applying caulk to the lapped seams of a highway guardrail. The same guard rail that has seen countless winters filled with copious amounts of halite. The same guard rail that has not shown a sign of rust, through all the abuse it's taken. Even the points at which cars have hit it, no signs of rust.
I'll take comfort that the 4 man hours just billed @ ~20/hr was well spent, and that the guardrail will remain water tight. I'll further take comfort that should someone be running their fingers across that seem, that their fingers will remain uncut on the perfectly caulked edge.

Because I wouldn't put the stuff they throw down on my french fries.

I don't salt my fries anyway. There's enough salt in the ketchup.

I get my ketchup from McDonalds packets, my relish from KFC, and my salt from the DOT.

I prefer name-brand ketchup, so I get it from Burger King.
OK, I actually have seven McD and zero BK right now, but that's because I used the other things first.

The alternative would have been to throw out the caulk. Caulk does have a very limited shelf life.
