Since Mame 0.140 refreshspeed option doesn't work

Hello,
Since Mame 0.140 the refreshspeed option in mame.ini doesn't seem to work anymore. Instead of getting percentage like 97.00% or 98.00%, I get something like 98.43% when I quit mame.
Also, in Missile Command in particular, the controls are very erratic.
Mame 0.139 and below are fine.
Any idea?
Thank you.

Some more information would be useful such as system specs, your display's refresh rate and also attach your mame.ini to allow others to see if other commands might be interfering with -refreshspeed usage.

System is a Intel Dual core, core2 chip using windows XP
Refresh rate is 60hz fixed using a TV out s-video.
I don't have the mame.ini on hand, but I did generate a new one using mame -cc and just set the refreshspeed 1.
Thank you.

mame -cc creates a completely default .ini only when you have no other .ini there. Otherwise, it imports your changes from the old one before overwriting. If you did not delete your old mame.ini before you did mame -cc, please attach it.

I did rename it mame.ini.old before doing the mame -cc.
Here it is attached.
Thanks!

Didn't mean to ignore this. There is something up with the command as it does seem to work as it just doesn't compute the speed the way it used to nor does this problem effect all games. Once I can isolate why, I'll post it to MT.

Wow, two observations that I was also noticing the other day...glad to see that somebody had already posted them up. Regarding the trackball movement, I also tested with Centipede and thought the same thing. However, getting back to the Windows desktop, trackball movement seemed normal.
Thanks, Jason

Just found out something. By turning off "triplebuffer", it solves everything.

It does for vertical games like Donkey Kong, Pacman, etc...but with "triplebuffer" turned off, play a side scrolling game like Vs. Super Mario Bros and you'll now see screen tearing.

Hello,
For Mame140 and up, I just found out that all games with a frequency of 61.035156Hz doesn't get throttled properly when triplebuffer is active. The result percentage is not 100.00%. If refreshspeed is active it should be 99.00%, but it's not either.
With Mame139 and lower both refreshspeed and triplebuffer are active and the result percentage is ok.
I'm not sure it relates to refreshspeed alone anymore.

Just found something else.
While having refreshspeed and triplebuffer enabled, disabling "multithread" solve the control problem in missile command, but when quitting Mame, the speed is still 98.something

Newsflash: if the game runs 61.something Hz normally and you refreshspeed it to 60.0, the reported speed is in fact going to be 98.something%. Because 100% is 61.something

Thanks for the answer. It's just, it wasn't like that before. It was always 97.00% or 98.00% or 99.00%

Yes, there was some error either in the calculation or the printout that chopped off the decimal part. Doesn't mean it wasn't actually there

R. Belmont,
So just for clarification, does that mean that previous versions were working correctly, and what is being experienced in 0.140 is currently broken? Or is what is being experienced in the current version correct in terms of emulation and will be this way with future versions?
Thanks, Jason

I mean the speed reporting is more accurate now. I make no other statement about -syncrefresh.

That unless your monitor can sync, at least very closely, to that refresh, the image will not be perfect. Old games used analog monitors, remember. (Incidentally, am I getting in the way of a dev dumming it down for the proles?)

Did this issue get resolved in .142? I played around with it last night and it still seems to be there...unless there are new settings or switches that I'm unaware of.
Thanks, Jason

What issue? The different percentage? It's more correct now. Anything else?

What's the point of the "Refresh Speed" switch now since it used to remove the hiccups in vertical games? Should the switch be removed then if it doesn't serve a purpose any longer?
Thanks, Jason

I don't know why you're bothering. I can't tolerate the difference in sound. If TB don't rectify things, I just go back to the 'ol re-li-able. MAME .104 (or maybe .106). Or get a better monitor.

I have a Kortek 27" monitor in my cab. I've been running everything at 800x600 60hz. With these settings it played well. Vertical games were pitched a little lower with the sound, but I could tolerate that compared to sound hiccups. Anyway, I guess I need to get an Ultimarc video card since my way no longer works.

Na, dude. Soft15khz. Or, if you don't care about newer rom sets, go in style the AdvanceMAME way.
